Medical Mile?
Hello Everyone,
My wife and I were married at Elfindale and are currently considering a move back to Springfield. I wanted to ask about the Medical Mile residential area south of Battlefield around National or Campbell. From your experiences, is that a nice area to live? It seems like a lot of well-kept brick homes, which appeals to us. Thanks in advance for your replies.

As for the Springfield area, we are also looking in the same area. As far as I can tell, this area is great and we have been accumulating info for over two years. You might also want to consider the Battlefield area as well. It is considered to be a suburb of Springfield. It has also helped us having family in the area who have added their input to our searches. Hopefully, others may wish to express their opinions to provide you with the "bigger" picture.

Personally, on these two areas, NO, NO, NO. If you consider NW Springfield area, go on out a little further on Hwy 160 to Willard. Others can jump in and give their opinions as well. This one is just my personal preference.

Lived in the area, moving back
We just got in from Missouri, it's a 7 hour drive for us. We went up to look at property and are purchasing in Douglas county, just over from Christian county.
I am well famiar with the area and I partial to the sw side of Springfield. I lived in Nixa for 16 years and miss it very much. Ozark is nice with that "small town" atmosphere. The whole region is having tremendous growth and everyone that's been there awhile already complains of the changes and the fact that so much building is going on. It use to be that you saw plenty of pasture/cows around in the area but it is all prime development land in the whole region, particularly sw Springfield/Nixa/Ozark. Republic/Rogersville and some of the other bordering small towns are now getting the spill off as they usually have more reasonably priced land/housing and lower taxes, but that is rapidly changing as well. It seems there is a mass exodus from the east/west to that area.
I love the region and though I was born in Texas and have lived in 8 different states, I call Missouri home. Often, the biggest complaint I've heard from people that move to that area is that life is too slow paced, especially compared to California/New York. I've known those types who gave it a chance and found that they were happy to slow down themselves. My californian sister-in-law missed california life too much and went back.
My husband and I stumbled across a good deal in Douglas county and we wanted rural/isolated/woods. We got it but it's also an hour from Branson and the Lakes, 30 minutes from Nixa, Sparta/Rogersville and Ava (our county seat). Christian county has alot of building restrictions and codes, other counties have less.
Schools in the Nixa/Ozark/Sparta area are the ones I know and they are great. There is a great Tech school system, OTC as well as quite a selection of colleges and universities.

fr8: the Kearney/Kansas Xprsway area is a mixed bag. Both good and not so good. The immediate areas to that intersection are older houses. Some kept up, some not. Good shopping area-Super Walmart, Lowes, numerous restaurants, and I-40 interchange right there. Housing is cheaper, it is an older section of town, perhaps one of the more diverse areas in Spfld. North of Kearny is probably a bit "nicer" than just south of Kearny. My daughter lives a few blocks northeast of that intersection, so we are familiar with that area. She likes it there, and has had no problems/crime. Cannot speak for the school system for that area, she has no children. Very nice park there, Doling park.

If you have driven through the medical mile areas you know it is mostly a nice decent area, with a very few pockets of rentals that have not been kept up as well. We looked in that area, and would have bought there, but happened to find a suitable house in a different part of town. And yes, the town of Battlefield is decent also, but lots of new subdivisions with only a scattering of businesses. Have to drive the short distance to Spfld to shop. That's why we liked the medical mile areas, because you could walk or bicycle to nearby shopping and eateries. As anywhere, you need to drive around a bit to narrow your areas, and then go to some open houses or a realtor and compare what you get for the money. Only you can answer what works for your particular lifestyle. Have fun and good luck ...
