My family is hispanic and before moving out there I would like to get a better read on the area before we move. And I would also like to hear from people who live in the area directly versus news articles.
I suspect you will find that Springfield is very racist. People's finding usually live up or down to their expectations.

You have to look around hartd to find the racists, except for those that seem to pop up in this forum.

However, we've seen and heard very little racism since we've been here. I wouldn't worry about it overly much. Hi could you suggest a good elementary school? I keep seeing Wanda Gray Elementary rated very highly, do you know much about them?

Thank you,

Charla Hampton

Sorry, Charla, I haven't a clue. We live some distance from Springfield and have no children at home. Our youngest just turned 25, is married and just had a baby of her own.

Wanda Gray is a really good school, and the area is really nice. Very affordable for the quality of life that you can enjoy.

I took a black friend with me to visit my parents in the late 70s. They lived south of Springfield at the time (Douglas County). Back then it was VERY unusual to see a black person, but we went from Springfield to Branson and everywhere in between, and no one was rude to her at all. In fact, everyone was very nice and friendly to her. She was the type of person who was going to enjoy herself whether people were nice to her or not. But they were. People are just in general NICE down there and polite to everyone unless they have a reason not to be.

I like black people as long as they act white. I lived in Kansas City for a year, that was long enough.
