The more designated areas we have for ATV's, bikes, etc..the more we can preserve our forests and wilderness areas.
Thank you for that good information. You get a rep point

Smile Food for thought...

Dear Sick of CA,

I'm so sorry to hear of your frustration! Most of us have felt the way you do so we recognize your pain.

Since you specifically mentioned a city of 20,000 to 30,000 population, I searched around and came up with the following list. How appropriate that it is from city-data, huh?

Missouri Bigger Cities (over 6000 residents)

Funny thing about the list, though. I was surprised to learn of the cities that are in that size range you requested. Turns out, I wasn't familiar with most of them! I have to comment that I find population can be deceiving, though. Other things factor in to make a difference. Proximity to other towns can be a huge factor! For instance, I used to live in Crestline, CA, which had a population of about 10,000 to 11,000. With only two exceptions (McDonald's and an Ace Hardware/Radio Shack combo), there were no chain stores or restaurants and only one grocery store, which was small but had most things you would expect to find...and a few more. All of the other businesses were locally owned. On the other hand, Ozark is the same size and has a Super Walmart, Wal Mart and tons of other businesses, restaurants, drugstores, 2 other grocery stores, three off ramps on the freeway, several gas stations, etc.

Up in Crestline, there was an elementary school in town but the Jr. & Sr. High students from several towns were bussed in to Lake Arrowhead High School, if I remember correctly. They've got several elementary schools as well as a separate junior high school and a HUGE high school in Ozark.

I guess an especially good question for you, as parents of a teenager, to ask of Realtors when you talk to them is, "What sort of activities are there for kids in town?" and, "How much of a problem do you have with kids and drugs?" My understanding is that when there's nothing else to do, drugs often become a problem.

Employment options in an area are important, too. That might be obvious for parents but it is also important that young people can find jobs when they're ready.

You've probably already thought of these things but since they weren't here in the thread, I thought I'd add them. I hope you are successful in finding a place that meets all of your needs!

Hi, califokie! I don't remember reading your posts before but am glad to learn that you're planning on coming to the OTFCC meeting on Saturday! So, how long have you lived here and what "nice town" (to stay on topic) do you live in?

I would find somewhere near Chadwick - possibly Ozark or Rogersville. Smaller towns with good schools. Chadwick has 80 miles of ATV trails, my family goes there all the time. They live in Rogersville and my brother rides his 4-wheeler everywhere and nobody ever says anything. You can find info on the Chadwick trials here

Another Nor Cal family looking for a Southern move. I spent 2 weeks touring TN this summer and loved it there. I'm bringing my hubby back with me Nov 28-Dec 3 and we are going to drive from Nashville area to Springfield area. Hubby is a HUGE bass freak. Our family sounds just like yours, Chuck! We are so ready to turn in our keys here. Born and raised in Nor Cal but my heart is in the South.
Can the members of this forum give advice on stops, towns along the route from Nashville that would be of interest smiliar to what Chuck is "dreaming of". I just jumped on this forum after spending months checking out TN. . .

Default Go to Highlandville

There is alot of property for sale. There are new houses and areas you can ride atv, on your own property. Look at Glossip Avenue and look at Hwy O there are great houses for sale on 3-10 acre tracts. Prices vary.

Highlandville is the center between: Springfield and Branson. You can reach these major towns within 15 minutes. The country is beautiful. The sunsets are awesome.

I think the town of Republic Missouri is a very nice town to live. It is about 12 miles west of Springfield Mo. It is a fast growing little town. It has good school's there, nice shopping and many places to go out to eat. To, you are only 12 from the City of Springfield and they have really big mall and just about anything you want in that town.
There is lots of farm land around Republic Mo. its just a nice place to live. We lived there for 4 years and then we had to move back to were we came from because of my hubbys job. All in all Repubilc Mo is a very nice place to live. They are also a sports town too. We still have friends there and family and they all are sports nuts just like us. There kids are into sports too. So its a great place and they have lots of farms around there and nice places to rent or buy. So check out Republic Mo for your next home.
