Define "Safe"! (Springfield, Ozark: relocating, home, crime)

In a safe neighborhood, someone like me could go for a walk for a few blocks after dark on a pleasant night and not worry too much about being raped, robbed, murdered, or assaulted. I wouldn't have to worry about driving to the gym after dark, or being assaulted and my purse stolen in the parking lot.

In a safe neighborhood I could drive to my grocery store after 9 PM and not have to "run the gauntlet" through several dozen scumbags and drug dealers hanging out there, just in order to get inside, or have to wonder if they would steal my car while I was shopping.

In a safe neighborhood I would not hear about cold blooded murders occuring closer than a mile from me on a weekly basis.

On the other hand, I would always lock my doors and car doors, even if I lived in a safe neighborhood. No point in inviting trouble. Times have changed. I wouldn't leave expensive goods visible inside a parked, locked car, either. That's just ignorant.

Springfield seems VERY safe to me, from what I can tell from my visits and reading the online News-Leader.

We're probably going to drive up there tomorrow, and I can hardly wait!

See what I mean? You're going to feel very safe in Springfield. There is crime...ok? But I always walked early without having to carry. I would go downtown to a Blues club at 8pm and walk 2-3 blocks by myself with no worries. If I did pass a couple young men, they would nod & say "Ma'am..."

Did I mention I love Missouri?

I don't blame you!! I think it would be such a relief to not feel imprisoned in one's home after dark. Sure, I go out if Frank will take me somewhere, but otherwise I just don't. I think we will love Missouri, too.

mine is manageable we have a lot of vigilance so hard for the bad guys to make a presence here with so much neighborhood activity.

Got you beat, sugar britches. We have an attack alarm system in the form of a Shih-tzu/Chihauhau mix. Yippy, yippy, yap, yap! And if someone gets past her, they be met with a .38 special loaded with hollow points.

We are not so safe here in philly. Neighbor in the apartment below me was murdered in september in the middle of the day and I was the lucky one to here it, call the police and find him. And if that isnt enough the Philadelphia Police have now become targets for criminals. FYI I live in a supposedly good area of South Philadelphia by the stadiums where the rowhomes sell for 250k all the way to about 650k. I cant wait to get out of this city and moved to missouri.
