Wow I've been tuning in when I have time to the trouble y'all are in up there. Ice storms are never fun to go through -- so I hope and pray for the best outcome for everyone!

Stay put, drink hot cocoa, and most importantly, stay safe!!

It doesn't discourage me about Springfield. I don't know why! I am planning to keep a very full pantry and just not drive anywhere during any ice storms that occur after I move up there. Frank (who is moving at the same time, but will live in a different house) plans to have a whole house propane generator. I am hoping I can get by without one.
I'm sure you're right, NOLA! OK has been getting the brunt of this storm...at least the past waves. I'm sure it isn't much comfort to the thousands who are still dealing with the ice and power outages here in MO. There are lots of people north of us who are still dealing with the ice and downed trees just like last year in Springfield.

I just checked the weather and Kansas and northern MO are getting hit hard right now.

I'm SE of Springfield and all the ice melted off the trees and everything here before the sun went down today. It's 40 degrees out there now and the weather man said we've already seen our low tonight so down here in SW MO, we're safe from ice...for now. We've got a dense fog warning instead.

Our next chance down here is for Tuesday night into Wednesday and there's still a chance that we'll get some frozen precipitation. It's too early to tell where the freeze line will be. It's weird...it feels like it's over and then another wave comes. Still, I'm so grateful to live as far south as I do! And like you, we just hunker down and ride it out. Many don't have that option so we're grateful for that, too.

Ohhh, that's right! You live on the lake! Can you see a difference already? The weather guy just said that he was worrying about flooding since some areas have reported over 3" of rain and more is on its way. I guess that doesn't really mean your lake but we sure had flooding on the Finley River in Ozark last June that came from rain up north, in part. Remember that? Anyway, I bet your lake could use more water...right???

Wink Lots of Ozark Ice/ Found a Generator on SALE

Here in Ozark, we had lots of ice, it was so pretty and at first looked like snow. Of coarse I took pictures being a newbie, lol. My kids really enjyed their bus ride this morning and were amazed.

It was cool to watch from the deck out to all the trees and cable lines as the ice would melt, fall, cause more to fall and listen to the ice falling. Birds were coming out and making more ice fall too.

We didn't lose power but our kids schools did for 2 short times and the high school has back up generators.

I was told that last year this house and area was only without power for 4 hrs compared to several days or weeks like some in Springfield.

Hubby got a great deal on a gas powered generator yesterday at Home Depot. If you are looking for one, It's a Yamaha Powermate and has 5700 watts (running) and 7125 watts maximum for ony $400. He went in for one just under it's power on sale for the same price but they were out and told him about this one on sale. This one has to be grounded though. We have been looking for about a month and these watts were usually selling for $549-$600 so we felt like we got a good deal. Hopefully it will do a good job for us if we need it. Oh, and they actually offered to drive to AK to get him the one he went in there for.

We got the basement for tornados, generator for power loss, now if we can just get some winter tires for the truck....

Blesings all, stay warm and toasty!

Glad to hear that things are going relatively well up there! Sounds like you got a good deal on that generator, Babyface. If any of your pictures came out well, you should post them!

Lake Junkie, I hope the lake stays where it belongs and doesn't flood anybody out, especially you! I'm happy to hear that it has been above freezing, though.

Sounds like ice on the roads has been more of a problem in Oklahoma and further north in Missouri, than it has been in Springfield. Good!

Buying a generator is a fine idea...and being prepared with food & water & heat sources...I haven't needed one but you'ns never know...

Oh!! Well, GOOD, then!! Let it rain, and rain, and rain until that lake is back up to where it needs to be.
