Howdy Tam!
I haven't lived in Springfield for a good long time, but I think you might be hard pressed to find any sales job in springfield that can garantee you 50k.
I don't know about commission, but I think your base salary would be well below 50k. Bear in mind that until recently (the past 20 years) Springfield was primarily a regional urban center for a greater area that mostly involved farming and ranching. Don't know where you now live but I think if you must have 50k or more you'd be better off looking in Kansas City, St. Louis or Oklahoma City.

Hi! Thanks for your quick response! Funny thing is, we live in Oklahoma City right now! I really like the Springfield area and am ready to start a new life there. We thought Springfield would be good for pharmaceutical jobs with all the hospitals there??? I guess this is why they say looking for work is sometimes a job itself! : )

drug rep jobs
Doesn't the drug company employ the rep, not the hospital? And don't they travel around to the different hospitals and doctor's offices? Maybe you could be based in one city, but travel to others for sales. There are lots of hospitals in KC and St. Louis. If you like Springfield, maybe you could be living there, and travel. Have the good of both.

Yes, the companies employ you...just thought there would be many of these jobs due to the hospitals. This is a wonderful site but can be very confusing. I have heard so many good things about Springfield until this morning I read about how high the crime rate is and how run down and dirty the hospital and town is??? Maybe I need to rethink this!!! : (

Heaton: It's true to a degree. Springfield does have it's MTV inspired criminal element. It like that in any city of size in nearly every state. If you must travel deep into the city, be smart, be aware, make evasive manuvers and travel with a companion with a cell phone. You'll be fine. We welcome people of your strong character in Missouri.

I don't know where you got such information. Are you sure it wasn't Springfield,MA. or IL.? High crime in Springfield? That's news to me. There's some property crime here and there - such as last year when I was staying at the Extended Stay America at Kingsley near National and someone smashed car windows in the parking lot and robbed cars, but I wouldn't say that Springfield (Missouri) is a high crime city. Dirty and run down? That's just an incredible statement. Every town has older sections that are a bit dilapidated, and Springfield is no exception, especially along and a bit north of Commercial St. But dirty? I've not seen it. The hospitals are world-class. I should know. They saved my life in May and I spent one week in the hospital. The food sucked but it was clean. My parents came out from California in June and were absolutely spellbound by Springfield and the area. They're even talking about moving here. In my humble opinion, this town is far cleaner and nicer than most others. You don't see garbage or litter on the streets. Yards and homes are well-kept. The downtown square area and old downtown are revitalized and charming. The worst thing I can say about Springfield is that it has horrible traffic. The streets aren't designed for high traffic and there are few right-turn lanes, so most major streets have people making right turns from the inner lane, which blocks everyone behind them causing backups. That's why people here have adopted the annoying habit of driving in the left lanes no matter what. This town reminds me in some ways of 1975 Modesto, California, but with narrower thoroughfares. And if you ever move here and want a good Chinese takeout...try Cashew Station on Battlefield..yum yum.
I didn't take this picture, but I've driven along this street. I think it's St. Louis St. going west from National:

I did take this one on Kansas Expressway heading north past Kearney (pronounced "Karney"):

We have three tall buildings too! This one is on Walnut St. and a condo tower. A friend of mine lives there:

It's a very nice town. The best way to judge it is to come and see for yourself.

MoMark,
I agree with you, though I moved away from Springfield many years ago, I visit frequently and can't say I've ever seen high crime or filth in the city. By the way, your St. Louis photo is to the east I believe, but I could be wrong. I think the dome is the old Shrine Mosque building which is on the north side of the street, and the dark building behind it is some Hammons thing.

You're right, it's looking eastward.
