Post Branson to Springfield - How far is it really?

My husband is condisering a job opportunity that would move us to Missouri. He would be commuting to Springfield. Our children are in college so schools are a non-issue. Branson looked very interesting but it lookd to be 45 minutes to an hour from Sprinfield when I mapquest it. I would love a village feel with charming shops and restaurants. Any ideas?

I commuted to Springfield from Branson the first year I lived here...it wasn't too bad. It's a great place to live...the tourism means we have an incredible infrastructure & amenities for a really small town. Not to mention the lakes...

It is about 45 minutes from downtown Branson to the Battlefield Mall.

Default Thank you for responding

If price was not a factor and just community and amenities were most important....where would any of you in the Springfield/Branson area choose to live and why? Just doing my homework....not judging anyone on their resoning....I appreciate it!

Default Where & Why...

I know you've already heard from me, but my answer to this question is that I've lived 3 different locations in SW MO in 14 years since my escape from Cali-fooor-nia.
1. Out in the sticks
2. In Springfield
3. At the lake.

If I could live anywhere here, price no object, it would be right where I am, except with a much nicer house. Timberframe/Log with hickory floors & a wall of windows to the view. Viking kitchen with outdoor covered kitchen/living/dining area. Travertine baths, steam showers/jetted tubs. Boat slip in the back yard. Etc.

The answer for YOU is going to be a result of really figuring out what kind of lifestyle you want...long term. I encourage you to put on paper: Each place you've lived, and the pros & cons. If you're married, you need to both do it, use two colors of ink. In each place, there's things you like, and things you don't (didn't) like. Putting it on paper is key.

I originally moved to #1 because we were escaping big city life. But after a year, I kinda missed having SOME amenities. The solution was #2, but after a number of years I really felt like living IN Springfield I could be ANYWHERE. I had, by then, discovered Table Rock Lake. Floating around on my air mattress one day I peered up at an old blue lakefront house that caught my interest. It was for sale! I figured out that I could live THERE and commute to work in Springfield in only about 45 minutes.

And the rest is history.

Merry Christmas, m'dears.

Agree with LJ about lake living-nothing like it-especially if money is no object! And the lakes down that way are spectacular. But....would not like that commute the rest of my working life either. My Spfld choice with money not being an object would be the areas just east of Spfld, out on Cherry or Sunshine. Or the section just SE of Sgfld.Or a secluded area on Lake Fellows. Just my opinion. Good luck with your search, if money is no object, you will have of course many options.

fellows lake is just north of Springfield. Its springfields water supply. I havent been fishing on it for years but there were no houses on it like table rock and no docks except for the public one were the park and ramp is. Its a very small lake compared to the other lakes around.

DeeGeeJay - You may want to check out Saddlebrooke off Highway 65. It is about 15 minutes north of Branson and 20 minutes south of Springfield. We bought a lot there in a subdivision called "Seven Pines," and will be building within the next 12-18 months. You will not be dissappointed. Idyllic pastural setting, outcropped natural rock formations, two (2) springfeed creeks, i.e., Cook Creek and Bull Creek. Underground utilities. Rational CCR. Hardwoods and conifers mixed. The "water feature" in the entrance is the largest in the country. Also, the charming town of Ozark is only a few miles north of Saddlebrooke on Highway 65, and is the county seat for Christian County. Quick access to everything without any of the negatives. Works for us. www.saddlebrookemo.com

WOW! Thanks everyone.....I really enjoy hearing everyones ideas. Lake Junkie, I too have lived in California for 20 years......the San Franacisco Bay Area....we have been in Williamsburg, VA the last 5 1/2....I grew up in Philadelphia. Springfield will probably be a bit of a culture shock. I have always been near an Ocean and Mountains. Of course, there are the Ozarks. Any good skiing? I like to live near culture and all the ammenities but also like my privacy...would prefer not to live where it is flat and baron. I love mature trees and water would be a plus! Believe it or not, I am a realtor out here but I am stumped on the Springfield area. My husband is also being courted by a company in Denver....so much easier to identify different neighborhoods. I appreciate your input....MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Saddlebrooke looks wondreful. I have another question....what is a "JOHN DEERE ROOM?" I am certainly familiar with John Deere but a room?
