Homeschooling??
My family (husband and three children) and I are planning on a move to the Branson/Springfield area in the next few months. We home school our children and I am wondering if home schooling is a big thing in Mo.? Is it common and openly accepted...or looked down upon by the locals, and can home school organizations be found?
Also, my husband drives a truck for a living..can anyone tell me of any good
trucking companies hiring, that get you home weekly and of course pay well?
I would appreciate any information.

Hi! Missouri is great for homeschooling! Check out hslda.org for state requirements. From what I can see from their website MO is a lot simpler than GA. We homeschool our two teen boys in Kimberling City area and did belong to a small coop. There is also a group in Branson and several in the Springfield area I am told. We have been in Missouri for 12 years and have never had any problems. We are moving to North Carolina where there are more restrictions than here but of course legal everywhere in USA. I am sure like everywhere that there are some who look down on homeschooling but I have found that my neighbors and those I come in contact with are very accepting and respect what we do. Hope your move goes smoothly. Have you already found a place?

I will PM you a list of homeschooling groups I found. We are moving there as well and homeschool, so I did a lot of research ahead of time. Missouri is one of the states with the fewest laws regarding homeschooling.

Homeschooling & Trucking...
Onjicamnden...Missouri IS one of the states with the fewest regulations regarding home schooling, and nobody I've met looks down on home schoolers.
Prime is headquartered in Springfield...and there's several UPS hubs as well. The one I've heard is plum is UPS. You have to know those jobs are tough to get...anything great is!
Welcome to SW MO...

Thank you guys so much for all of your help! I sure hope everyone in that area is as welcoming and helpful as you all have been, I will be wishing we had moved there sooner.lol No we have not yet found a place but we are scoping things out. We are considering moving to Springfield since the rentals seems to be really reasonable, but we actually would LOVE to find a smaller town closer to the lakes and all of the outdoor activity. I just figured that rentals further south of Springfield may get higher the closer you get to Branson. Is this true?
JRSGirl, may I ask why you all have decided to relocate to NC? Does it have anything to do with wanting to leave Missouri? I used to live outside of Ashville, NC. What part are you moving too?
Yes I imagine that UPS is hard to get on with, but Prime...not so much. Hubby doesn't care to much for Prime since they tend to keep you away from home for VERY long periods at a time. He wants to be able to get some decent home time so that he can enjoy the outdoors on his days off. I have seen that Springfield has a large amount of trucking company's based in the area, so that makes us a bit more comfortable about the move.
We will probably just go with enough money to stay in a motel room (with a kitchenette hopefully) until we can find a place to rent. Then maybe we will have some time, before hubby goes back to work, to enjoy and get to know the area some. Ooo sounds like fun, I can't wait! lol

We are at a stage in our lives where we can live anywhere and we want to live by the ocean so we are moving to the Cape Carteret, NC area. We have enjoyed our stay in Missouri but it's time to move on. My husband loves to move! Hope you find what you like here.

I can relate to that JRSGirl. We are the type that usually doesn't stay in one place for long, but we are hoping to change that with this next move. We are mainly moving to get closer to family in Texas..without having to actually be in TX. It is just too dry and flat there for us..but Ga./Tn. is too far! All of the other places we have lived didn't appeal to us for one reason or another. Where we live now, it is the high prices in real estate and the VERY polluted lakes and river just to name a couple.
So far we have lived and moved from:
Abilene, TX. to Jacksonville, Fl.
Jax. to Ashville, N.C.
Asheville to Colorado Springs, Co.
The Springs to Abilene, TX.
Abilene to Ringgold, GA
Ringgold to Wildwood, Ga.
Wildwood to Trenton, Ga.
(shortly south of Chattanooga, Tn.)
Now hopefully to Mo. to stay!
Wow it sounds like you are moving to a beautiful place. I hope you enjoy it!

Wow! Sounds like you move more often than we do. Hopefully, Missouri will become home to you and you can put down roots. That's what I'm hoping in NC. Have fun with your move!
