Im moving to the Republic, MO area and wanted to get any thoughts on the town, also I was wondering if there was any enviromental hazards around there that would be a health concern?

Funny, I was just reading some of your posts the other day about Arkansas and was hoping it is'nt like that in Missouri, yikes! I don't know anything about Republic, but you can check out enviornmental concerns at scorecard.org , someone on another thread recommended it and I checked it out, very helpful. Good luck with your move!

Republic
I read your post and thought I would reply, Republic Is a very clean and robust Town I know because I lived ther for a numbers of years Til I moved north of Springfield. The people are very friendly and there are no envirement issues because the DNR checkes the water and the enviroment all the time and watches it very closely.. any other questions dont be afraid to ask..

Hello,
We are looking to move to Republic, we went there yesterday to look for an apartment and from what I have seen there isnt much... And pretty much everything we found was much more expensive then Springfield (that is where we live now). If you guys/girls have any suggestions please let me know. The reason I need to move is because I found a job close by and I dont want to drive an hour each way everyday. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Little towns are what they are. They are small and have few services. I've been in Republic and number of times and even considered movinng there, But. But I like small towns. I've lived int he Springfield area and the Joplin area - always in small towns. The only small town I ever lived in that had really great city services and plenty of it was Carthage, MO. But..But the reason the town could offer the services was because they had a $20M budget that paid for it.
There are towns North of Republic, East and West of Repulic that might serve your needs just as well. Good Luck!

There are several apartment complexes in the republic area. I have never checked the cost of any of them since we are in a house, but I do know there are some that are affordable. It's just that the ones that seem more affordable may be less than desirable to some. One than comes to mind is off of north main street, next to the mini storage, and just past the Early Childhood Elementary I school. They are located on the west side of the street. I know those are lower rates than say Old Stone, which are only a couple of years old. Other than that, you could try Billings, as they usually have some rental houses in the area that are reasonable. You might check the Newsleader and Republic papers to see if anything stands out. Also, since I live in Republic, I see houses for rent all the time. A lot of them are the older farm house style homes, but some are 80's and 90's built. If you would like I can get a couple of the numbers for you and you could check and see if they are anything that you might be interested in. Just PM if I can be of further assistance.
You might also try calling Morelock-Ross Builders, they have lots of rental property in the Republic area, and they are all houses, not apartments. The rent for one of their properties is about the same, and sometimes even less than an apartment. Their number is 831-6644. Not trying to solicit, as I'm not affiliated with them, or the housing/renting industry, just trying to be of some help.

I live in Clever, which is about 8 miles from Republic and it's even smaller. We drive into Republic several times a week to do our shopping and errands. It's a nice, quiet town, but the one thing that you have to be careful about is speeding. The police are extremely visible and I see someone who has been stopped for speeding almost every time I come into town.
Republic is close to Springfield, but just far enough away that you have more of a small town feel.

I live in Republic and it is a robust town. As far as the economy, I see signs of growth. They have a new Mexican restraurant and McAllisters Deli (soon to open). I saw a foundation pour for a new house which I have not seen for a year. Republic is very clean. I see a truck vacuum and sweep the streets once a month. And as someone said, the police department is very active, but I consider that a good thing. Good town!

If you want to pay higher taxes and an excessive sewer bill (2 1/3 times the rate of the water bill), have a street sweeper but no snow removal in winter, then Republic, MO is for you. (My neighbor watered his lawn three times in a month and his water/sewer bill was over $200.) There are hardly any businesses (and I am sure they get a great tax break) or manufacturing base to counter the citizen's taxes. Housing prices are over inflated; but the builders keep building and rent out new houses. Republic also allows large sheds (that fill up the back yards) to be put in nice subdivisions. Move somewhere else. I would, if I could afford it.
