Thumbs up Springfield!..so many memories

I lived in Springfield for 4 years. There are a lot of churches, namely because there are several Bible colleges there and the Assemblies of God headquarters is there also. When I was there I noticed that it was a city of extremes. I wont go into all the ways, but it was interesting to meet different kinds of people. "The Square" in the middle of town never leaves a person in want of odd people to talk to. The dining there is fabulous as well. They have Cheddars (which I highly recommend..and some other Mexican place that I've never forgotten). A little ways down the highway is Lambert's..home of the throwed rolls. Their food is great!

I really miss that town more than I thought I would.

I take offense to North side kids, I raised my kids about 3 miles north of I-44 and both of my children are well educated both with Masters degree's, I Know plenty of kids from the South side that are not quite the prefect kid. So before you assume that kids raised on the North Side are bad do your homework.

Not sure which thread I should post this to but it is good info for someone who is retiring and needs to know which state has the best benefits.

I know it says 2004 but it is the latest info I see for the Medicaid benefits. It will give you an idea what things you might want to make sure your state of choice will cover and then you can do further research on the benefits that are important to you.....maybe some changes have been made since this was put together. http://www.kff.org/medicaid/benefits...v=39&so=0&tg=0

There are many good places to live in Springfield. You just have to determine what type of home you want, in consideration of where you will be working, how much you want to spend and how long will you be living here. A home on the south side maybe worth 1.5 as much as the same home on the north side. If you are here short term you must consider resale or if you are here long term....consider your comfort. The amazing thing about Springfield is it evolves all the time....if you would like more information you can send me a private message

I find that the businesses are getting away with anything here in Springfield. Also the law enforcement and greene county laws are a joke. If you call the police you can wait a good 45 mins for one to show, unless its a dangerous crime knife gun sort, And then if its any domestic sort or problem, well its a civil problem and there is nothing they can or will do.
This is a time honored tradition in greene county and springfield.
Drug dealer run rampid and deal every where and the judicial system if something is stolen is a basically if its loaned/borrowed and not returned just file and report to your insurance company,if you don't have insurance then your SOL... They won't go after the person even if you show them proof, they just tell you to sue them. Now this lead you to the next step, If you are to encounter the person/s and ask them and a whathave you ensues then chances are you get arrested for trying to get you items back. So what is the point of law enforcement. Basically there additude here is to get along, but when companyies renig on you and treat you like scum, well there is nothing you can do.
Cops additude to this, MOVE!

If you file a complaint and they take it it goes to a prosecuting attorney office where a pencil pusher decided yea or nay. Then you get a letter to answer the complaint to show in court. More time of your life wasted.

If your house gets vandalized, wel they tell you to hire your own securtiy cause they are busy dealing with the bars downtown. etc..

The point is the aid and abiet criminal activity by delaying action. From the cops point first thing to do is discreadit you. Once this is down or anything is in question, well you got it, your just a liar.
Time is now the county and city need to revise their proccedures on what consitutes right and wrong. Hey a thief is a thief! A drug dealer is just that.
Or county is letting more in when it can't deal with its own.
No more laws, enforce them! Gun laws.. ha.. way back the USA had OVER 255,000 gun laws alone. Do you thing more will help.. NO they won't, Enforcing laws will.. Make the Bad one build there own camps and harvest for the law abiding citizens.
It's is not just here its everywhere in the US that is getting this way.

Springfield, MO is a place you go against the grain they oust you.. They don't want to here the truth, well face it. They just act like it don't affect me now so what.. they will see one day.. Oh never mind, they will just move away like most of them do..

Was a great place to live and still came be..

Enjoy!

Hello My name is Daniel Mahoney I moved into the Springfield Missouri area approx 14 years ago and the only reget I have is that I didnt make the move 10 years earlier. This area is low on crime ,friendly, has a good sense for values and is more family friendly than most parts of the country. If you need assistance in finding a home feel free to call me anytime for I am a Real Estate Agent in the area and would enjoy showing you what the area has to offer. Thanks for your time.

Default Gray Skies?

I have enjoyed reading this thread -Thanks for this! We, too, are thinking of relocating to SPRINGF. We have in-laws who moved to NW ARK (Fayetteville, Bella Vista, etc) but my husband and I liked the medical facilities and "nice-ness" of Springf. much better. We are going to be moving from FL. (too nuts-oh here these days) We moved from IOWA/ILL to here about 18 years ago - loved it then, loved the sunshine and super winters but tired of the fires and hurricanes and all the people...But I have one major question - how are the winters? I mean I am NOT expecting a FL WINTER but how long or how many days do you have GRAY SKIES? The cold I think we can eventually get used to if I have a fireplace in everyroom, wear long thermal underwear for a whole year to get acclimated... (yes - thin blood here now but am a true Midwesterner) but how are the skies? Oh and I do have one more... When you do get ice - does it last long? I hear you rarely get snow - I mean you do but you get more ice than snow - is that correct? I know this last storm was not "normal" but how about your average? Thanks for any input!!

TeeJayMaJay -
There are so many questions about our weather.

I have lived here almost 2 years. Moved from CA. We love it! Not sure on the number of gray skies, but you will acclimate. The first year I wore the layers. Long sleeve, sweatshirt, jacket, scarf, gloves ....., but now it's just a warm jacket in the winter. Our first year we only got maybe 1 1/2 inches of snow that only lasted maybe 3 days, but this last winter was a bit challenging. We actually had 2 ice storms. Coming from CA, I have never seen this. It really was beautiful. We had snow on the ground for quite a bit. The first one wasn't bad because we never lost electricity. The second one we were out of power for 7 days. I know now that being on a well means, no electricity - not water. We had a generator and got by.

The weather changes so often, that people say just wait an hour and it will be different. Good luck on your adventure.
