OH! Do...we love meeting new ones each month!
I used to do a lot of river camping back in CA and did some in MO...try these links...
interior
North Fork River Canoe, Raft, Kayak, Tube Float Trips, Missouri
...but I got hooked (pardon the pun) on camping at Table Rock Lake.
It's not like...a big round body of water...so there's rivers running into it all over the place...it's just an amazing place to camp.
Try this:
Table Rock Lake recreation area details - Missouri - Recreation.gov
Or this:
Table Rock State Park - Camping - Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites, MoDNR
You'll love the water here...
The humidity is an issue, especially right after a rain shower moves through, kinda like Hawaii.
You'll want to carry some plastic tarps and be prepared for those occasional showers...

Roaring River State Park is beautiful and the state park facility has a nice campground that is beautifully maintained. It's about 90 minutes from Branson, but if your into river fishing, swimming, etc..it's a great place. But lots of good state park campgrounds right on Table Rock Lake.
While there are several sites for camping, try:
Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites
It includes the reservation systems.
Also try wildernet.com You can search on Missouri and then on any activity you are looking for be it river fishing, private camping, etc..

So it seems like the entire state of Missouri is beautiful!! I live in Southern Ca, which is becoming a ghost town lately...I am used to hot summers but have not really endured too much humidity. I spent a summer in Phoenix, and they have monsoon season, Is your humidty like that at all? Thanks

The entire state is Beautiful! Lots of nature and many different types of landscapes. In answer to your question about Humidity heather 4, Yes we do have humidity and it can be a little close outside at times but the beauty of Missouri is the constantly changing weather. The locals like to say if you don't like the weather just stick around 5 minutes and it'll change! But to be truthful the humidity is not as harsh as say Florida and you can always find a lake or creek or river to relieve your suffering! Just ask Lake Junkie!
All in all Missouri is not a bad place to live in my opinion.

Compton Ridge Branson
We like Compton Ridge in Branson. It has so much for kids to do and also has an indoor pool so if the weather is bad you can still swim.
It's close to Silver Dollar city and the strip yet secluded. Here is the link: www.comptonridge.com
Make sure you book at the main camp ground and not the north location.

There's actually great camping along the James River or Tablerock Lake. If you have the time I'd take the float trip on the James that starts down in Highlandville. They rent ya the canoe and all the accesories, drop ya off at the starting point and you paddle back to the rental area. They have camping there for trailers, did last time I was there at least.

SHHH! This is my secret floating spot-if everyone finds out, it will turn into Elk River. Seriously, this is a great float. We always use James River Outfitters, at Galena MO,who has a very nice campground right on the water. It's not big, but great if the family wants to float, as you end up right at your tent or trailer. The staff is great. But you will probably need reservations during peak floating season!
