Lightbulb Convincing the Kids

So my husband & I are darn sure that we want to make the Springfield area our home. We've been talking and researching and visiting for a while now. Nine year old son is ready to go! The problem is the 2 oldest girls: One almost 17- finishing high school on-line, the other 14- homeschools (not happy in public school system).

This town, and our little place in the country are all they have ever known as home, and they are reluctant to change, to say the least. Maybe I should say resistant.

Where can they meet people their own age? How can we lure them to the area?

Ideas, suggestions, comments and personal experiences would be appreciated.

The Jordan Valley Ice Center has 2 really neat ice skating arenas. They give lessons, have hockey games and public skating. This may not appeal much to the older daughter (maybe?) but the younger 2 should find others their own ages.

Are your daughters involved in any activities (sports, dance, gymnastics, etc)? Have they visited Springfield?

You might plan a trip down here that involves visits to places that you know your girls will enjoy. Help them to form a bond with the area prior to the move so that your transition will be much easier for everyone involved.

Yes, the kids have done some ball and gymnastics and would enjoy that again.

Anybody know anything about the live music venues? There's a couple of small ones here that accommodate for kids that bring in some pretty big name bands.

Also wondering about James River Church. Looks like they have some great youth stuff going on.
Hey, thanks guys!

Springfield gets some decent concerts, but hasn't done quite as well as Columbia. Now that the new JQH Arena is near completion, I'm sure Springfield will be a more attractive spot for larger concert venues.

JRA (James River Assembly) has a LOT of programs for kids and adults alike. I have no doubt that you'll find many outlets to "plug into" there.
