Please don't expect a mini to be a herd protector-they are great for WARNING of danger or unusual activity, but are too small to fight off anything other than a small dog. For a sheep or goat guardian, you need at least a standard size donkey, who has been raised with the herd. Also, donkeys can sometimes turn on and injure or kill lambs or kids if they are not used to being around them. Whether this is intentional, or just playing too rough, I don't know. They do like to chase dogs, rabbits and squirrels-my 2 (small standards) take turns chasing and being chased by the terrier who lives on the farm. They set up an alarm one day when a bobcat jumped on the rock wall of their field. The bobcat wasn't interested in the donks-his rabbit had run under the wall!
