I have trained my donkey to allow me to sit on his back now. At first he would buck but his bucks are nothing. Only sit on the mini donkeys back until it stops moving. Once it stops moving imediatly get off and give him a treat. Let that be the end of the training for the day. Then continue the procidure till you are able just to get on his back and walk around. What i realized is that my mini donkey loves to run. We have a very big ring at my barn. He loves ginger snaps so we put a ginger snap in my hand and he chases me all around the ring. He is so gentle and makes sure not to hurt me. If you have anymore question let me know.
Hi MyMinidonkeyWinston: Your minidonkey sounds like quite an adorable character. I would love to see a picture of him. Ginger snaps...too funny. Continued luck with the training.

Default Min. Donkey

I have a friend that is a vet and lives near Buffalo. He has sheep and a minature donkey with the heard. He has llamas and they are accompanied by a min donkey. They are great for warning of a threat to other animals and they will protect and run off attackers. They have a tremdous bite and kick if they don't want something around them, be aware of that. I would suggest not getting a min donkey if you think it is cute. They might make good pets but people who tend to think they are cute, tend to abandon or neglect them with time. They have a great purpose of watching other animals.

Please don't expect a mini to be a herd protector-they are great for WARNING of danger or unusual activity, but are too small to fight off anything other than a small dog. For a sheep or goat guardian, you need at least a standard size donkey, who has been raised with the herd. Also, donkeys can sometimes turn on and injure or kill lambs or kids if they are not used to being around them. Whether this is intentional, or just playing too rough, I don't know. They do like to chase dogs, rabbits and squirrels-my 2 (small standards) take turns chasing and being chased by the terrier who lives on the farm. They set up an alarm one day when a bobcat jumped on the rock wall of their field. The bobcat wasn't interested in the donks-his rabbit had run under the wall!
