Default Let's talk restaurants..

What are your favorites restaurants where you have RECENTLY eaten (like in the past month)?

For us, Wasabi (last night) was great. "A" for food, "C" for ambience, "B" for service. Great Spicey Tuna in the bento box.

White River Fish Company I (for lunch today) included wonderful jalepeno cornbread, french fried portabello's (always a favorite for me), and nice thick clam chowder. The mango colada wasn't bad either.

We ate at a very good Thai restaurant in Joplin last week. Elephant something-its located on 32nd street near St. John's Hospital, same shopping center as Del Rio. Huge menu, great food BUT they are new, need lots more waitstaff, very friendly but service was SLOW. Neat decor, played jazz music which I didn't care for. We will go back but will wait a little until service is up to par.

We may have to try the French Hen for one of our Over The Fence Coffe Club meetings.
I've been in before for coffee and it's very good. Thanks for the invite.

Default Easy's in Springfield

Lake Junkie and I had lunch at Easy's Cajun Restaurant and Bar in Springfield yestereday. It's on Glenstone north of Sunshine (1710 S. Glentstone).

Very good, the right amount of spice and reasonable prices. Some dishes are a bit different (ie..not necessarily authentic cajun but a creative take on certain dishes). Also a few "fusion" dishes which look to be sort of a cajun/pacific rim cuisine.

They have an 11:00-3:00 lunch menu (beginning at $4.99). They also serve Muffaleto's but that will have to wait till next time.

They also have fried dill pickles. Disc's of dill pickles battered in a buttermilk batter and then deep fried. (Boof...this one is for you).

I had a fantastic dinner at Kai last weekend. For those familiar with Japanese restaurants in Springfield, Kai is owned by the same people who own Haruno. While I enjoy both restaurants, Kai is a small step above Haruno (which is fantastic in its own right).

Can't miss item: The tempura asparagus and mozzarella cheese with sweet wasabi dipping sauce. It is incredible!

Atmosphere: Kai has the typical "downtown" restaurant atmosphere. A lot of modern decor with bright colors and fun shapes. It's a fun place to be.

Food: Simply incredible. The beef filet is out of this world, served with three different sauces on the side. The sea bass is phenomenal as well, and the sushi is second-to-none.

Service: What you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. We got enough attention to make sure that our needs were met without feeling annoyed.

If you're in the mood for Japanese, Kai should definitely be on your short list of places to try.

Default Kai?

Sounds wonderful. Is it in downtown off the square?

Yes, Kai is downtown. If you take Campbell south, then turn right on Walnut you will find Kai on your right.

Default Mr. Yens

We tried Mr Yens on CC (west side of 65) and can say that some of the more Chinese dishes are excellent. The fried dishes are sort of "southern fried" but the schezwan dishes were wonderful. Good hot and sour soup. Very busy at the lunch hour but not so much if you get there earlier or go a bit later.

We ate at Lambert's last night. Got there early and only had wait about 15 minutes. We had not been there for probably 10 years, simply because it is always packed. Not much had changed, still good food and lots of it. My hubby is a big fan of mac and tomatoes and fried okra, both of which I don't care for, so he was in heaven. My only complaint is that I had my roll eaten before the sorghum made it around!
