Default Moving to the Area in the next 6 months

Hey all. I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Chris, and I have a 90% chance of moving to the Springfield-Branson area.
My company lost its bid with its supplier, and I'll will have to relocate or find a new job. The more I look at the area, the more I like it, and I think I could make many friends around town(s)

Is anyone willing to give me a better idea of how the area and surrounding work? Like x part of town is upper class, x part is lower, x part of town has some of the best education in state, x part is not for outsiders... *wink*
It's a bit of a grey subject, and I dont discriminate against any lifestyle. I just would like to hear opinions of the area and get a better understanding myself.
Thats not the only thing I can't find, but I'm sure if I keep reading the forums, I'l answer most of my own questions.

I'm born and raised in Chicago and live in the area now. I was in the army for a bit, giving me a lot of time to get used to people from all over the place. I really like what the area has to offer, and I'm wanting to make a move to a place that I will hopefully spend the rest of my life. If there is a better place to ask, please let me know(as long as thats not against the rules for me to ask.)

Thanks in advance. I'm bookmarking the site now and I'll be back, unlike the others that pull a one and done.

Default Glad to Hear you are looking at our area!

Hello Made in America!

Well you have come to the right spot for info on the Springfield / Branson area!!! I myself am a Chicago transplant. Been here over 30 years and married to a local boy. I was just a girl when we moved here. I have some cousins left up there though I don't visit very often. Love it down here too much!

First off what sort of job are you looking for? You might try a website called Ozarks Region job search and jobs posting. Find a high quality employee. Find the perfect job. they have job listings for Springfield and the surrounding area. If you are looking to Branson for a job there are plenty but many are not the highest paid in the world as it is mostly service or retail or entertainment oriented jobs but the trade off is that the living down here is great! But you can check the Branson Daily News website as they list jobs in their classified ads.

As to where to live, Springfield is a wonderful town. Lots of big city type stuff to do but not far to camping, hikking, water skiing, fishing, and most anything you can think to do in the outdoors. If you are buying you will need a good realtor to help you find the right area. There are also many apartments and houses for rent up there too. But Springfield is too big to summarize the good the bad and the ugly here!

Branson is a good place to live if you are going to work there. There are a ton of condos for rent if that is your prefrence. I prefer the outlying towns as I live in the Rockaway Beach / Forsyth area. Lots less traffic and still great access to both Branson and Springfield (15 min. to Branson and 30 min. to Springfield).

Hi Tjs Mom!

Welcome to our little part of the country. I am afraid I don't have much info on Bolivar but I am sure if you call one of the local Realtors and they can point you in the right direction. Many times they know who is renting in the area and sometimes are a property management company in addition to a real estate agent. And you never know they may just have someone looking to owner finance their home. Moderator cut: removed

Welcome MAD and TJ's Mom to the Springfield/Branson Thread...
Springfield is a great small/med size city. I don't live in Springfield but rather south just north of Branson. We wanted a bit more space with a nice rural feel but not too far from restaurants, shopping, the city, etc. Lots of nice places down this direction. Springfield is growing to the south so you'll find newer homes, shopping areas, restaurants, etc. Lots of older areas have nice homes on large lots though. I find Springfield to be a real mix of old mixed in with new. If you want city living, the downtown area is being refurbed but is still in the transition mode so it hasn't yet taken on the vibe of affluency it will one day have if it goes like many other areas that have achieved what Springfield is trying to accomplish.

But welcome, come join us for coffee (see Over The Fence Coffee Club)...you can ask all manner of question to locals.
