Skipper I think from previous threads that you stated that you are somewhere upward of 40-50. Let me be honest with you. IT STINKS!. The downtown bar scene pretty much is a no man's land catering to the college crowd. There's not much "Cheers" action for someone middle aged. Springfield is not impossible for someone looking to "hook up", like any city there are usually loads of Moderator cut: inappropriate women widowed or divorced that are available but you aren't going to find them in the "raving" scene. Unless your looking for a little bumpkin much younger than yourself. If so good luck. In any case if you are looking to hook up locally you have to head out to some bars that are frequented by the older crowd and that can be cliquish indeed. Also unless you're drving up in a Lexus or Escalade don't think that it's gonna be a walk in the park either. Your demo is a hard one to crack in the Springfield area. In any case go check out the downtown but if you are used to a club scene in other cities I would just advise you to not get your hopes up. Maybe abort, retry, fail?
You might want to try the clubs in Branson. There isn't so much of a current of spring chickens dominating the club scene as is moslty the case is Springfield. I just saw too many ol guys hanging out at a table by themselves while kids young enough to be grandchildren were bumpin and grindin on the dance floor.

Wow... I'm so sorry that your life was so negative here. But aren't "clubs" for younger people in general in any town/city? I moved here from Las Vegas where there are tons of clubs and it's always a young crowd. I'm originally from SF Bay area, and clubs were full of a younger crowd all looking to hookup. This concept certainly isn't exclusive to Springfield.
However, nightlife isn't necessarily clubbing. It can be a nice movie house, a jazz bar, a lovely restaurant (which I think skiper alluded to anyway), or a bar that has live music.
What do mature people in Tibet do for nightlife?

It would be nice to hear you talk about something you are educated about, because you are VERY behind the times in Missouri....

I lived in Springfield/Branson for 11 years and left two and a half years ago. My evaluation may not sit well with your opinion of the place but it is a valid assessment nontheless. Not everyone coming there will experience what I did, but also not everyone who moves there will end up singing the praises of the 417 area code from the rooftops either. I have a sore spot for people who just rave about the place. I seen lots of people who were told to "come on down!" and then a short time later were broke and everpiencing stress from family/relationship problems brought about by financial woes. It's partly the reason that I am somewhat estranged from my family because they all encouraged me to move there and then threw the monkey on my back when I couldn't succeed in a career. As I have said numerous times, springfied/branson has it's good points as I have some fond memories there. In spite of all the heartache and financial woes I had there I am happy that I lived there because who I am and the kind of money I am making, and the life that I am enjoy currently are in part to what I went through there. I was so on skid row, as were most of my friends and co-workers that I ended up taking a tremendous gamble that just happen to pay off exponentially. Had I been in any other circumstances it might not have happened.
So who's right and who's wrong? Both of us are right it is just our perspectives that differ. If you are you are trying to get started in a career Springfield/Branson is a terrible place to be because the locals don't want to pay you anything. Some people do find a niche but most in my observation most of the lesser of demographics just stay in the rut until l they move to where they can make a better living, or move into a unremarkable but livable local salary. It's a pension and retiree paradise though.
But back to the original observation. I've been to nightspots all over the Western hemisphere in many major cities and minor ones as well. Springfield's leaves a lot to be desired.
