Post Thanks and...

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. This has certainly taken the focus of my brand new "widowhood" and forced me to fight another battle.

But I really want you all to take care of yourselves and those females around you. We often put off our mammograms because we're too busy...we'll do it later, or there are bills we need to pay first, no one in the family has had it, or....some reason that really isn't a reason it is an excuse (no one ENJOYS their mammary glands being squeezed).

Breast cancer, any cancer, does not run in my family. No relative has had it, no history of it, etc. We are no longer "relatively safe" from this disease.
A 1 in 8 risk is a relatively high. So the next time your in a room with at least 8 women, know that 1 of them will develop breast cancer...don't let it be you.

Okay, perhaps I'm being a bit "naggy" here, but when it hits you it becomes a real thing..not one of those things that happens to someone else. I've experienced the loss of husband and now breast cancer in three months. I don't want a friend/cyberfriend to go this same path. Please please my friends, do what you can to protect yourself by regular mammograms.

I'll say no more....well I'll try not to say anything else.

As part of my challenge, I want to ensure that all of my friends, family, and CD buddies are doing everything they can for themselves, for their female loved ones, and their female friends to minimize the 1 in 8 risk that we all face that we will find this disease in our bodies.

Take care and hopefully I'll see everyone (EVERYONE ya hear?) on Sept. 17th.
There are a great many controversies currently concerning mammograms. I have read several conflicting and very disturbing articles during the past few months. I am very sorry to hear of your diagnosis, but I would certainly get a second and possibly a third opinion (from an entirely DIFFERENT clinic), befor making any plans for treatment. Statistically mammograms have proven to be misinterpreted a large percentage of the time and results from biopsies are not much better. It is postulated that the reason for a fairly good survival rate among breast cancer survivors is that they really did not have the disease to begin with but were totally misdiagnosed. It is certainly something to think about. I would also strongly review the credentials of any doctor with regard to his diagnostic capabilities with regard to mammograms. Not all doctors are good and competent and one small mistake can affect your life indefinitely.

Just my opinion. I hope that everything turns out ok for you.

Hmmm...that IS disturbing info, 20yrs!

I understand what you're saying...not that mammograms are bad but that they aren't always accurate or accurately read...so get a 2nd or 3rd opinion. Point well taken.

Thanks for sharing it,

MrsG

Monana is on a distinguished road
I was looking through the forum and I believe the OTFCC meeting date is Sept 17 (3rd Wed of the month). Am I correct? I see that it could be at Ozark Jazzy Cafe. I am up for that if I can get off work. I really enjoyed that last session even if there were only a few of us. A pic in front of the gazebo would be a good idea. Something for all to treasure. Having been seperated from family (due to parents death) early in life, pictures are all we have sometimes and they become treasures. I SURE hope that I can get there.

Mrs C........ I am praying for you and all women who experience this misfortune. My mother-in-law had this disease and she was one who did her mamogram too late in the process. PLEASE, everyone, take her advise and get yours scheduled TODAY!!!!

On another note, everyone must be as busy as I am because I haven't seen too much activity on the thread. Hope eveyone has a great labor day holiday and is able to rejuvinate themselves. I know I will try to!!

Tkae care
Monana

Lightbulb Mark your calendars!

Hello, all! This seems like a good time and place to pop in and tell you that on Friday, Sept. 5th, the three major networks (ABC, NBC and CBS) are doing something they've never done before. They will be broadcasting a show simultaneously! Yep, it's a fund raiser for cancer research and the networks are donating their air time, too!

The show is called Stand Up 2 Cancer and it will be airing at 8pm Eastern and Pacific and 7pm Central. 100% of the donations will go toward funding cancer research and you can even make a donation in honor of or in memory of another. If you do either of those, they will send a card announcing it to the honored person or family of the remembered one...so be sure to have that information handy if/when you call.

If you want to know more, just go to: Stand Up To Cancer

You'll see that you can even launch a star to honor someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. There are a ton of major stars who will be "on hand" for the event, too...so it should be entertaining, as well.

I won't be able to watch it since I'll be taking calls for donations. My DH already has "dibs" on the VCR so he can tape Monk and Psyche, which are starting back up on that night. He can't watch them because he will be at CERT Training that night. Whew! Now's when I wish we had a couple of DVR's!
