Default Just wondering...

is there anyone on this forum that has moved to South West Mo. from Tn. or North Ga? If so, how do you like the area and have you adjusted well to it? It seems that most people are moving there from California, and I just want to make sure that SW MO. is the right choice for my family.

The only way that anybody can give you advice as to whether it would be right for you to move here is to provide some information about what your expectations are. What kind of a lifestyle do you have now? What kind of work do you do and how much do you currently make? How may children do you have (if any) and what are their ages? Are you retired or nearing retirement? There are lots of people moving here from California and elsewhere but lots of that has to do with cultural and economic factors. California is a mess currently and moving to the Yukon would probably be a step up for most.
Some people move here and like it others have a hard time and wish they'd stayed where they were and that goes for anyone no matter where they are from. I've been all over the country and I've seen better places than SP/BR and I've seen worse. It all depends on what you want out of life and if the local establishments can provide you with that.

Thank you Paw Tucker for your response. I do see now that I gave you little information to go on, and I apologize for that. I don't really know what I am looking for either other than a nice affordable, down to earth place to live. I guess we really need to travel to the area, but just have not gotten the chance to do so as of yet. I am afraid if I go visit I won;t want to leave!lol But I guess that would be a good thing. My husband and I have been all over the country as well (and lived in many states), but we settled here (around Chattanooga) mainly because of the beautiful scenery and the affordable cost of living. We have previously lived in Jax,Fl., Asheville,NC, Colorado Springs, Co and Abilene, Tx. to name a few, and I wonder how that area would compare to these places.
Of course I have learned, through the little research I have done, that SW. MO. won't be nearly as dry as the western states we have lived in...and thats a really good thing (IMO)! I prefer more of a moist, humid climate. We do have 3 young children ages 2,6 and 8..so plenty of outdoor fun is a must for our family. We are drawn to the plentiful lakes in the area..and I am assuming that the water their is much cleaner than it is where we live now. We are also drawn to the fact that Mo. seems to be very accepting of home schoolers as we have home schooled our children from the start.
I think we have pretty much made up our minds on moving to the area and now we just need to do it. Of course I know it isn't going to have the big beautiful mountains that we have around here, but as long as there are at least rolling hills and the trees are plentiful, I believe it will fit us fine. My husband and I drive a truck for living and with all the country we have seen through the years I believe we have only been through Springfield one time during our driving career, and that was at night!lol Thanks again

Ciaerin I thank you for your help. However I am curious as to rather or not you found the weather in SW Mo hard to adjust to or not? With all that I have heard about ice storms and seeing the tornadoes go through the area quite often it puts me a little on edge.lol Well, if you like it then I bet we will like it also.

lol onjicam, i know that there really arent many tornadoes that go through where reeds spring is. as a matter of fact i think it was said that there hasnt been one even remotely close since 1994 or something along those lines. the weather is mainly like a milder nc/tn/ga temp. we do get cold weather, but nothing like the icemonkeys of wisconsin/northern illinois/michigan people. i personally love the weather

Hey that sounds great then!lol Can't wait to move. Yeah, it does seem like most of the bad weather in that area stays around Springfield and further west of that, does this sound about right?
