Interesting. If you were ordering a beverage in a restaurant, would you say "I'd like a glass of Coke, please, or would you say I'd like a Coke please?

My hubby and I drink our coffee with milk (or half/half), and it seems that at some geographical point on our drive from NY to MO, powdered creamer is offered instead of milk. Same thing happens when driving South. Being true coffee addicts, we end up buying a container of milk and keeping it in a cooler in the car. Bad habits die hard. That's why I was wondering if drinking one's coffee black was typical in Missouri.

"A" coke. "A cup of" coffee. Soda is "pop" (except St. Louis). I use the powder creamer because it lasts longer although I will admit that real cream is much better. Some of the gas stations now have half and half dispensers.

And who says coffee is a bad habit?? You've survived to this day.

A lot of people *think* they are Republicans
Or maybe a California Republican is really a liberal when they are in rural Missouri, much like a somewhat leftist Missourian like myself might be flaming red in the Bay Area

Maybe we need a new moniker for people who want to move to, or maintain and preserve the rural land and lifestyle of the Ozarks and other parts of Missouri. A name for those who are looking for less government regulation, lower taxes, less suburban sprawl, more self-sufficiency, and any other attributes you would care to include or exclude. Any suggestions?

Hippies, Liberatarians, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Lefties, Righties, Red, Blue, all have been used...let's come up with something new. Be nice now!

Is the old bank in the first picture still in business? That's where Laura & Almanzo got the loan for their farm.

I think so...? That's amazing that the bank is that old, and also a great piece of history about the town.
