Default Engineers

My name is Vera. I'm from Russia originally. I live in America (Springfield) about a year. And now I'm ready to look for a professional job in civil engineering/ architectural engineering, and I'm ready to work very hard, but a problem is that I need to find something for a start. I'm smart, ambitious, goal-oriented person. I have the education in one of the top of Russian University and I will be a good part of company team. But this time I'm confused... I need to advice, how to start, where to start my career in Springfield?
I worked as a drafter/designer in furniture company and I'm good in AutoCAD, also I have excellent math skills. Please, give me a advice!

Verochka! Welcome to America!
I hope someone out there has advice for you, I'm sorry I don't...
Have you connected with other Russians here?

There are job placement companies you could talk to, like Penmac or Manpower...they might be able to direct you. And it wouldn't hurt to talk to the engineering professors at MSU.

I just wanted to say welcome...from the bottom of my heart.

Lake Junkie, Thank you for your kind response!
I have a few Russian friends here but I prefer to communicate with American and people from different countries because I want to improve my English.
I didn't know that a person (who is not student) can talk with a college professor about career.
I will follow your advice. Thanks!

Definitely look into jobs with the city of Springfield! From what I've seen they could use some fresh blood.

GreenGeek, thank you for your response!
I was in Department of Human Resources, City of Springfield. But they accept applications only for current opening positions and they didn't take my resume.

Welcome to MO - curious, what brought you to this little corner of our state? Interesting that someone w/ your talents/skills would land here, in Springfield I've a good friend that speaks Russian, and has studied your country quite a bit, and I've tried to learn also, it is fascinating place, with very rich culture and history. What University did you attend? Have you looked at maybe even doing some teaching [language and/or engineering]?, like at a community college? Good luck to you.

ShadowCaver, thanks for answer
I'm in Springfield because my husband is student in MSU and we are going to live here. I miss my family in Russia, but I follow to my husband and think we choose the better opportunity for our life.
I attended The Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Siberian Federal University, Russia (Siberia). I’m going to prepare for taking an engineer exam here, in America. But at first time I need to stand in a right way. I love drafting and I’d like to find a job drafting (maybe an assistant drafting to start out), because I can do it well with my English and I took AutoCAD 2008 in OTC, Springfield. Now I'm attending the ESL class in OTC also (we have the best teacher I have ever seen) and my English is improving but I need a lot of work with it!
And I don't know who will be interested in my talents/skills )) I hope this will be happened as soon as possible

Is that the large school located in Krasnoyarsk? Very highly positive reputation. Beautiful area around that town too - guess you have visited the Stolby forest and rock areas too? Again, good luck to you and your husband. BTW - still think would be interesting if could teach Russian, in technical manner, at one of the local schools too? Guess you have searched on hotjobs, monster, and other web sites?
