I've enjoyed your posts in the past and you sound like you might actually fit in here. I've got a cattle prod at the house if you need any help sending the transplants back

California hate? In Missouri?
I really haven't experienced California-hate here in Missouri. 20 years ago I did in Oregon & Washington, because so many Californians were moving north & "driving up prices"... ...but I have found Missourians for the most part to be good, friendly, neighborly people.
And we ex-Cali folk have a wide variety of perspective when it comes to our views of California...just as wide as our political or socio-economic views!
Eric & the others are right...it's a BIG state.
My personal opinion... ...about how California got in the mess it's in (in some ways, not all...it's still a wonderful place in many ways) has to do with the fact that in my lifetime, the golden state has been firmly headed down the road of being the mecca for liberal-thinking, progressive-leaning, open-minded policies. It has been the happy home of the hippies, the radicals, the free-thinkers. (Hold on, I'm not saying that's bad...please bear with me...)
For instance, in the 70's, there was a huge focus in the criminal justice system to understand what psychological forces were behind a person who would commit a crime...why did that poor murderer do what he did? While this is not in-and-of-itself a bad thing, it seemed, at least for a time, that there was more sympathy in the courts for the perpetrator than the victim.
I saw a noticable difference here in Missouri in this respect. "We don't care about the sucker's childhood, we gonna nail his @**."
What I'm getting at, it's all about balance. I think California got out of balance somewhere along the line. There's a reason our forefathers built a system of checks & balances into the government. We need liberals AND conservatives, and we need the system to keep either side from totally controlling things...or we get out of balance.
We also, I think, have to look at the fruit of our society's choices. Like taking prayer out of schools. How did we let some of these things happen?
Again, my humble opinion, which I am always eager to share.

So how and why did y'all let that happen?
Ronald Reagan used to be your governor, and I thought he was a good president, possibly the best in my lifetime.

Ozark,
Well Ronald Reagan was governor 40 years ago, alot of water has flowed out of the Golden Gate since then.
I too have been waiting to move to Missouri upon my retirement. If you would have asked me 20 years ago where I would go, I'd have said " No where, California has the best weather, some of the best fishing, and the Sierra's are absolutley Beautiful"......
Now 20 years later I'm told I can't have a fire in my fireplace, it causes smog. I'm told I can't launch my boat there cause it will pollute the water.. I'm told I can't buy a gun unless I can prove I have a gunsafe. There are actually places that you push 2 for english. Push 1 for espanol...
You asked how did this Happen? We have some very Liberal Supreme Court Judges appointed by a very flaky guy named Jerry Brown Jr. who was our governor awile back...
WE have put on the ballot and passed several Propistions that the judges have since overturned the past few elections, Gay Marriage, Illegal Immigration, Illegals rights to schools and medical needs and several others have been overturned.. and these judges are there for life just like the Supreme Court of America...... So you can vote one way and the judges say its not constituinal and overturn your vote> I could go on and on.. But the bottom line is I want to be able to Fish and Hunt and ride horses without someone telling me I cant Pollute the air ,water or land.....

We had a great Thanksgiving, our first in MO. It was wonderful. Actually, this was our second Thanksgiving meal because our new church had one for all of the members, but they were nice enough to invite those of us who are considered visitors. We are joining the congregation though, next month.
Thank you for all of the kind words and we love it so far. Of course, we are still new but so far, it seems like a perfect fit for us.

Hooray! You made it! Welcome home, Anonymous! I'm glad you got moved in before winter set in, too. I'm thrilled to know you've already found a church home...and so quickly! I also find it amazing that your kids are so willing and happy to make the change. How old are they?
Anyway, it sounds like there are plenty of miracles goin' on in your house and plenty to be thankful for! I hope we get to meet you at one of our OTFCC gatherings but of course, you might not be able to remain quite as anonymous, at least with those who attend that day.
By the way, I think it might be a good time to switch your location here in the forum from "California" to "Missouri!"
Hugs,
MrsG
