Ya also get some insight about how the folks of that region tick. Some strangers are stranger than others.

Thank you. I'll take that as a compliment.

I saw no mention of employment in your posts...I take it that is not an issue. Good thing too. No jobs around here, unless maybe an occasional minimum wage job. As for kids, there is a YMCA in Mountain Grove and Seymour (Seymour also has an indoor pool and offers all types of aquatic programs.) I guess four is too young for scouting, but that would be coming up soon. There is a food pantry/thrift store in Hartville...maybe volunteer? I know you have to drive to get to anything, but at least gas is cheaper right now. I too miss the availability of shopping and stores that stay open later than 5pm.

I lived in SW MO for many years. One of the nicest and prettiest park system is in Carthage. If you want big town shopping Joplin is 10 miles. Lebanon is a nice town I;ve driven through many times in the last 25 year. The food is pretty good and they have three very nice grocery stores. And the traffic isn't ratty. I know nothing else except I like it. and it is only about 20 miles from Lake of the Ozarks area.

I'm not sure why no one else is seeing this.... but parks equal meeting other kids and other moms.... It sounds to me like that is what she needs.. She only mentions having one child.... I have an only child and I can tell you I could have 1000 acres and would not make any difference..... parks are where kids and other moms hang out...

Well, in the country we don't have parks where kids and other moms hang out. As other posters have said, you've got to adapt, find other ways to meet mothers. Best way in the country to do that is through church and school activities. If you want to go to the park to meet other moms, you've got to remain a city resident for that convenience. If you move to the country, you've got to live like a country person. Not sure why you're not seeing this.

Not sure about Hartville, but pretty much every other small town in the Ozarks has a city park with a playground (and maybe a swimming pool) where you will find plenty of kids and moms.

No need to be rude. The poster below you says there are parks in small towns in the Ozarks, so it doesn't sound like I'm off-base at all.

If I remember right, ozarksboy lives in Rolla. Rolla has several large parks, including the Lion's Club and Schuman (sp?) Lake parks...all which have plenty of playground equipment.
