Ozarks Boy Response is Very Telling
Ozark Boy's response to the lady who is having a difficult time w/the lack of things to do:
"Ah, shopping; now I get it. You're one of the thousands of newcomers to Missouri with plenty of disposable income. Lots of those of us who grew up here and stayed here have been struggling all our lives to make ends meet. We're too busy tending the garden in summer, canning and freezing stuff for the winter, cutting or hauling firewood, to think about the lack of quality shopping experiences.
We meet people and get kids involved in activities at church. This Sunday at my church, for instance, we'll be studying the word of God in Sunday School, then we'll praise and worship the Lord Jesus Christ in the worship service and afterwards we'll fellowship with one another at our carry-in Thanksgiving dinner".
Bible thumpers like you are the reason I would NOT come to your area. I guess she is an "outsider", who, if she didn't grow up shucking corn is devalued.
I guess your just an example of "fine country folk". The kind I try to stay FAR away from.

Look, Robin, it isn't hard to figure out. If you come to this part of Missouri and choose to live in a small town, you're going to have to adapt. We don't have shopping malls in small towns (thank goodness), we don't have dog parks, we don't have art museums. The population isn't large enough to sustain such businesses and institutions.
You're going to have to live the way we live. We live close to nature, so we appreciate a relationship with our Creator, who according to John 1:1-3 is the Living Word of God. We enjoy worshiping together at our churches. We are Bible believers; I'm not sure what you mean by "thumpers." I guess that's an insult?
I suppose you also consider "shucking corn" to be an insult. I've shucked a lot of it and enjoyed the sweetness of the kernels, so insult me as much as you want.
I know this sounds like an awful life to you, so it's probably good that you plan to stay FAR away. You seem to be someone more cut out for city life.

Look, Ozarks Boy...When did you purchase Missouri? You have alot of nerve speaking for all Missourians (ie: "we, we, we"). Last time I looked, I was a citizen of the USA. Which means I go where I want and live the way I want. How arrogant to state "you're going to have to live the way we live". Uh, no, I don't. I'm an Aethiest and would never step foot in a church. If you question the religion aspect, perhaps refer to the Constitution.
Then you have the ridiculous audacity to TELL me what life I am cut out for. The life doesn't sound "awful" to me. Just small town bigots. Guess that's you just being a "good Christian".
I ought to just move there to open a Church of Free Thinking Americans right next to your incredibly pious House of Worship that you ALL go to...

First you want to move here, then you say you want to stay FAR away from here, then you say you go where you want and ought to move here.
I don't know what you're going to do and apparently neither do you. I was just trying to offer some advice that I hoped you would find helpful, i.e. I was hoping to offer advice that would help you decide to move to some other state where you would obviously be happier. I've got your best interests in mind, so what are you criticizing me for?

Good Grief
READ the post. R-E-A-D it. There's no "going to move there, not going to", etc. "Ought to" is something called SARCASM. Nice try at manipulation though. GONG.
Now, READ your posts.
I come from the school of "if you're going to dish it out, you better know how to take it".

And she wants to move to Mansfield? It has the same mores and customs as Hartville (just down the road). At least she can't say no one told her what it was like.

Yeah I noticed that too. But she is setting herself up to be miserable if she moves here - it would be everything she hates. Like if I moved to San Francisco and demanded they start having tent revivals out in the park. I don't think I'd be very popular either.

Do that in San Francisco and some street-wise, native entrepreneur will put a sign out front reading "Do It In a Holy Roller Tent" and charge admission.
