The way they talk, walk, act, smell (b/c they have pigs, or hogs to them), even look to a point is just different. They think the "city" way of doing things is weird too. I used country folk to be nice, after all, they are family....Oh, here's a description, kind of like the Beverly Hillbillies, only modernized, and not as dumb, with an indoor toilet. No road kill either...at least I don't think so. Make sense?? Lol.
Sound like my kinda people..I don't get them city folk..

Momma,
Marshfield is really a nice town. And, actually just about 20 minutes East of Springfield. Lot's of country folk (lol) but some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. And, I don't see alot of skateboarding! lol
You might even try Nixa,Ozark, area. Still really close to Springfield, but their schools are really great, and turn out some pretty great kids.
Low crime rates, & nice communities. Good Luck

I am also interested in moving to that region, but not sure about the job market. Does anyone know how its going there? My husband currently works for a paper plant as a machine operator and I am a legal secretary.

I'm a single mom with an 11 year old daughter with asperger's (form of autism). I like Springfield and Branson for resources and things to do, but I've found better housing in the more rural towns along hwy 44. I don't want to be too far from resources. Of the towns I listed, which do you consider best? I like a town with a laid-back attitude, not too far from shopping and family resources. I really like a house in Marshfield, but know nothing about the town. I've been to Joplin and the parts I wandered into seemed kind of slummy. What's cost of living like? How far from a good grocery store? What about churches? (We go to Lutheran or Methodist). Where might an older lady find a job? I'm a digital artist, but I can do other things, too. Sometimes I sell crafts at craft fairs...any good ones around? Sorry to ramble. Thanks for any help.
Alton down in Oregon County is a good place...cost of living very low,are you looking to buy, or rent? There is a fall festival there called the Black Walnut Festival, also other craft shows around the area not far away. Good friendly community with a few homes for sale on small acreage.
