Default Lake of the Ozark Info please!

Hello,

Myself and a few family members are planning a little golf getaway to the Lake of the Ozark area end of March or early April. One family member spent time there last year and wasn't thrilled with the lodging (Tan-Tar-A?) but loved the area.

I've been doing a lot of looking and have found there are some decent prices on golf packages but a question I have is "Where to stay?".

Some of the agencies offer Condos as part of the package and those seem to appeal to me as being a better deal than staying in a Hotel or Resort.

Can anyone honestly tell me if there is a benefit to renting someone's condo versus staying in a hotel/resort?

We're looking to stay and golf and eat and sleep. We won't be doing any real partying. May want to look for a few nice places to dine but other than that and the golf and the lodging we don't need much else.

So we'd like to maximize our dollar and find the nicest places to sleep and take in some of the upper quality courses there.

Thanks in advance for your help

I went to a conference last year at the Country Club Hotel (near Lodge of the Four Season). It is near several of the best golf courses and the facilities are top notch.

Default Places to Stay and Play

I live in SoCal but have a house in Lake Ozark and plan to move there in Summer 2008 (I'm counting the days). I've been there several times and played many of the golf courses. Staying in Osage Beach or Lake Ozark/Horseshoe Bend keeps you central to the best golf courses and restaurants. Tan Tar A is more to the outside of town. If you want upscale hotel/resort and golf, I would recommend Lodge of the Four Seasons, which has nice accomodations and restaurants and two great golf courses - Seasons Ridge and Witch's Cove. I stayed there the first time I visited LO and liked it very much. You may also be able to play at Porto Cima, which is private and one of the best golf courses in town, by staying at Lodge of the Four Seasons. They also have condos you can rent if you prefer that to a hotel room.

The choice between hotel and condo is a personal preference. I prefer a condo because you get more privacy by having separate bedrooms and living spaces versus one big room. A good condo rental company is PMG and they have "stay and play" packages for discounts on certain golf courses. I've used them several times and they have a good selection of condos in different areas and different price ranges.

My other favorite golf courses are Osage National and Bear Creek Valley.

For casual dinner and drinks, stop in at Risky's on Bus. 54. For good Italian try Lil Rizzo's (there are two locations - one near the outlet mall, and one on Horseshoe Bend). And for fine dining try Bentley's, also on Bus. 54.

Have a great time and I may see you there, as I will be visiting in the first week or two of April.

Thanks SoCal,

Your information is very helpful.

I have been in contract with PMG and they seem very responsive through e-mail to answer any and all questions.

Just looking at the web and brouchures I had figured that Osage National, Season's Ridge, Witch's Cove, Sycamore Creek and Old Kinderhook were some of the nicer courses in the area.

My sister and BIL played Sycamore and Bear Creek last year and they loved them so we may play there as well. They were unimpressed with The Oaks.

I'm guessing a condo would be most preferable for us as well.

Thanks for the info on dining as well. My sister said they found a nice place last year but ended up in a few places they were less than pleased with.

If I do see you there just remember it's been a few months since I've played (Wisconee) and I may be slapping that white pill around in all the wrong directions. Listen carefully for any 'fore'(s).
