Thanks for all the replies so far.
I would really like to get some idea of how much we are going to have to pay for electricity and gas, and what the average water and trash bill is going to be.
We will be getting a 2 bedroom house or duplex. Moving in in mid to late May.
Knowing approximately what utilities cost will determine how much rent we can afford.
I appreciate the help.
See you all soon.

I think a lot depends on the age of the duplex/house. Newer ones (within 10-15 years) tend to be a bit more energy efficient. I would say in a small 2 bdrm house or duplex you could pay pay around $200 a month on utilities (gas, water, electric). I have lived in older homes and a townhouse and they were not very energy efficient and in the summer I paid around 130-150 for electric and 30-40 in gas and you can flip that in winter (gas being around 130-150). Try and get a place that includes water/trash, that will save you about $40 a month. If you get an address on a place, call the gas and electric company and they will tell you what the utilities have ran in the past year.

My son has ASD and attended Joplin Schools. I don't know a lot about Carthage Schools, but I do think he got a really good education in Joplin.
For awhile, I was part of a parent group supporting people who had problems with IEPs. At that time, which I should mention was several years ago, we had more problems with the Carthage and Neosho schools than any of the others nearby. My information is a little bit dated, but I still know the head of Joplin Special Ed and the vice (don't know the title name) and respect both of them.
Carl Junction or Webb City would both also be good choices. However, Carl has a bit of a commute problem in mornings and evenings... large numbers travel to Joplin. Southeast Joplin is close to all needed facilities.
Also, police response in SE Joplin is typically less than two minutes. However, if you live in SE Joplin, it would be better not to live in Newton County. Jasper County has a Senate Bill 40 program and Newton County resources are more sparse.

A little FYI:
Any location south of 32nd street in Joplin is in Newton County; Newton County Sheriff's department has a satellite station in south Joplin.

Looking for Old Pal
I've lost contact w/ my old Pal named Freeman Shaheen of Joplin, MO. If any one have any idea on how to find. The house I've visited once was (sounds like) formerly a library in Joplin.
Thanking you all brother.

I went to college in Joplin (MSSU) some years back with Jamie (Jamel) Shaheen. His dad, Esber, had bought the former Joplin public library in the downtown area - I believe it was on Wall Street.
That tiny tidbit might help!

Looking for Old Pal
We do say ("Mauliate") Thank you for your info Joetownmom, and if you don't mind, I would like to contact him and would like to say that I missed them all. So, how do I get the ordinary address, for example, NW Wall Street #345, Joplin, MO xxxxx, I will send a letter by ordinary mail. I think Jamie is his brother. His wife is MRS (Meggie), and when I was with them, the first child just born in Stillwater, OK (as I remembered).
Once again, "Mauliate=Thank you" Joetownmom....

Hi there Joetownmom,
My letter which was sent thru ordinary mail was returned to sender due to unknown addressee, and the address was written exactly as you gave me therefore do you have any idea on Shaheen's address?
Thanking you..
