There are a couple of people with the same surname as my ggg gparents living in St. Joe and I have contemplated asking them if they knew up the line to see if they might be related and have some info on my family but I've been chicken so far.
We have relatives, (hubby's family) that now live in Missouri too (since we moved there) but they are in the southern part, Joplin. I felt bad at first because they came after we did and we moved back out (no choice really) but I think they are far better off financially than they would have been and we are moving back soon I hope!
Now I feel guilty over moving away from Ca. again. My mom lives here and she works hard to lay it on thick but I can't see staying where I'm not happy. Next year my youngest child will be finished with highschool in December and after that I figure hubby and I are free to move when we are ready. I'm looking foreward to this part of my life.

You do know that guilt it a gift you can only give yourself, don't you? If I was you I'd take it back from whence it came and exchange it for something I really wanted.
Not to make light of it because I know my wife is torn on moving as both her children and her three grandchildren are right here in Sacramento. She raised her daughters for 16 years as a single, working mother with no support whatsoever from their father and there's a particularly strong bond there -- sorta them against the world.
We all deserve to follow our dream and we must or risk settling into regret and resentment. *My* only saving grace is that I told my wife before we married that I would retire ABC -- Anywhere But California. The choice to move to Missouri with me is hers, or not. Either way, I'll be there within the next half year.

I moved from the desert of southern California to Ash Grove (20 miles northwest of Springfield) in 1995. Very nice, friendly town, they have a new nursing home although Springfield may be a better "methodone" treatment for those leaving the big city. Ha

Heck when we moved to West Plains (population about 11,000)
I thought THIS was the big city! We moved from a dying town of
about 7,000, that had no Wal-Mart, few restaurants, about three
doctors, and very little traffic. I still say this city is big enough for me!
(Rarely go to Springfield).

I hope you two will be ok with whatever happens. I know that When we moved to Bethany, although my hubby had been on board with me the whole time, he was horribly homesick and that was an issue. Now that we are back here (Ca.) he says he realized how good we had it there and he had originally brought up the idea of going back. Well we already closed on the house so if he gets homesick now that's too bad lol.

Besides my former youth kids (I was a youth pastor) and my longtime friends, the only thing I really miss about Sacramento is Tom Sullivan in the afternoons. I hear he is national now, but we don't get him here.
and rust-free old cars, I miss that too.

He moved back to either Washington, D.C. or New York and has a show on FoxNewsTalk as well as broadcasting on Sirius. We still pick him up on KFBK.

I miss Pick N Pull too.
I'll have to get Sirius this year. the local news talk station is a fox station, but already has a full schedule.

Yeah, stuff rots pretty good in Missouri. Gotta love all of that road salt. Most of the body panels on my '72 Chevy pickup are junk now. Oddly, when I'm back in Missouri I see a lot more classics driving around than I do in Austin, although the classics I do see in Austin are quite rot-free.

Good for you, Belle! If you're led to that, then go for it and I wish you the best. Sounds like you have a great attitude.
