I know what you mean! I'm in Ca. in a small incorporated city of 3500 people. The nearest Walmart is over 50 miles away. The only fast food here is a subway that was put in not long ago, the bowling alley has been long closed, the movie theater is gone. I was in pure heaven when we moved to Missouri, finally had some decent shopping and activities in the same town I lived in. My kids were a lot happier too with more things to do.

We too are transplants to a sweet little cow town Gower, MO but we came from crappy Illinois. Man we lived there all our lives (where 40+ now) and did not realize how much we hated Madison County Illinois. But we absolutely love it here in these little hick towns (I say that word lovingly) as I fit in just fine. We didn't realize how snooty our little town of 10,000 was until we moved here. Man everyone and I mean everyone (with money or without money) or without teeth for that matter are the nicest darned people I have ever met. They do not judge me on anything. They simply converse with me or become a new friend. We had to move to Missouri since hubby's Ford plant closed and all we could think of was yuck we hate St. Louis but love Branson and darned if we didn't find a happy middle. We love the cows the land and the people. And we just bought land further out near Bethany. Can't wait to move there. So what if I have to drive 25 miles to walmart. It means I plan better and shop smarter, duh!! That's a given. Anyway, good luck and we hope you love it as much as we do. Man I must have always been a country bumpkin at heart and didn't know it

moved from Cali also...
We moved her 4 yrs ago, my husband is a Marine and I became a Realtor. We have a 6yr old and 8 yr old, girls, they do REALLY well at the schools in Lebanon, but I worry about moving back to Cali....will they still do well? The schools are not that great any where around here. It took quite a bit to get used to the slow way of life here but now I really like it. We might be moving back to Cali, 29Palms area. I will miss this place for sure. My husband is determined to move back to Lebanon,MO to retire. Good luck with whatever you coose to do.

Ugh, the thought of having to move back to California, activates the gag reflex...
