If your kids have not been previously home schooled I wouldn't think of starting at their age. You would deprive them of the socialization that comes from being with friends, at school, on a daily basis. This doesn't mean I don't think Home Schooling is great, I do, to a certain point. By high school it is time to face the real world. Yes, they may be exposed to fights, racial problems, or social situations we wish all our kids could excape, but think about it: in just a few years they will be off to college. Isn't it advisable for them to see the world now. I am sure life will be fine for them whatever you decide.

Very good post and I agree especially about the socialization part. Gosh when I was in high school over 30 years ago we had our share of knock down drag outs so this certainly isn't anything new. I've also put two kids through public schools and they managed to come out unscathed and this was in southern CA where racial tensions can run pretty high at times.

wow, I bet you find the two areas quite different. I was born and raised in So Calif (the LA area for the most part) I went to San Diego State, we lived in the San Francisco area, Sac and Eureka as well. Now after 7 years in DC and 13 in Dallas we are in NM but plan to relocate next spring. I can't wait.
