Smile Done Did it

Well, We did it. We moved from SoCal to Springfield and have been looking for a home. Land prices have sure gone up since we started looking on line a couple of years ago! Most of the parcels we've looked at were way back in the boonies on gravel roads. Not that we minded the boonies. But a couple of days ago we found a perfect place in Halfway. 19acres for $47,500. Best yet, the realtor says it is part of 700acres being divided mostly for about the same price. So, it's there if you look enough.

Congratulations on your new Missouri property. What kind of house are you planning on building? Regular stick built, modular, MH, ICF? What is the land like? Farm, forest, ponds, streams? I wish you and your family peace, health and happiness in your new Missouri homestead.

If he's dividing 700 acres into 20 acre parcels, sounds like a whole lot of people are moving in there with you. If I had to have neighbors that close, I would just as soon live in town where things are more convenient. I would hate it, but as long as you've found a place to make you happy, good for you.

19 acres - neighbors won't be too close...assuming all the parcels sell anytime soon, which I doubt. Welcome to Missouri!

Congratulations. Where in So. Cal? And don't worry about neighbors..with 19 acres they will be far far way....both in time and space. I live in a "neighborhood" that has 1/2-1 acre lots and only have 1 neighbor less than 1/2 mile away. It will take lots and lots of time for those 20 acre lots to sell and maybe never for them to be built on. Have fun in your new digs. Maybe we need a West Coast club?..

And, because of folks like you, prices will continue to inflate. Thanks a lot.

Well, you're here now, so welcome. We hope you'll find it pleasant.

Now you can get involved in the community and start making a difference to help make life better for your neighbors.

Your new community is, no doubt, needing growth and progress and could use the experiences and wise counsel you can provide from a California perspective.

I'm told that the Ozarks region is in dire need of progressive ideals such as they have on the West Coast, so you would do well to share them through volunteerism, membership in civic clubs, and in letters to the editor of your local paper.

Best of luck to you.

Where in CA? We were in Murrieta, SW Riverside Co.
Why Mo? Relatives, & lower taxes. e.g. Just registered the car for $43, Cal's DMV sent me a bill for $320.
Bringing CA values/perspective to MO!!! Heck I came here to get away from the Calif. Values(?). I plan on keeping a low profile for a year or so.
Neighbors? The 700+ acres is being divided into various sizes. Mines one of the smallest. Others range up to 100 acres +/-.
House is going to be a mobile home built with ADA compliant design.

Well, congratulations. As an FYI..you'll also be paying personal property tax next year on the car so the price of the car "registration" in Mo could still be close to that in CA depending on the type of car. I drive a 10 year old Mustand and between the registration ($33) and the personal prop. tax ($198), it's still cheaper than your $320, but not by as much.

And don't worry, not everyone in the area is caustic about "Californians"...as a matter of fact I run into more people who have moved here from Illinois and Florida than from CA..a few people have some strange ideas about Californians...like all of them have $$$ and intend to turn the area into "little CA"....

Again...welcome to the area.
