The Bolivar area has cheaper priced homes and taxes, but the total non-farm employment in the county is quite low based on the population. That is why most people who live in the county have to work in Springfield.

Maybe so, but if your such an expert on this subject, why is your profile so empty? I have lived in Polk county most of my life so I speak with experience. IMHO

The idea of renting for 6 month and getting feel is a good idea and one I did when I moved to Idaho some years back and also will do when I get to Missouri. I also would drive the rout during the time I would be going to or from work to get its feel also. Then make were I am going to live on that and I would also add time for bad weather to boot as it can add big time to the drive time

I have traveled through the area and the county the past few years. IMHO Polk County needs more economic development based on the fact that the population increased by almost 10% between 2000-2006. Non-farm employment actually decreased between 2000-2004 and the percentage of residents living below poverty was above 16% as of 2004 according to the census data. Why does Missouri lag behind so many other states when it comes to rural economic development in the smaller population counties?
