Default A second opinion on the employment situation in SPFLD.

Here's another one of those people relocating to Springfield. Your lovely city must grow exponentially on a daily basis! Anyway, my question is about employment opportunities for well-qualified people with good work ethic.

My wife and I just got married and are 26 years old. We are moving in late December/January--I will be attending MSU for the Speech-Pathology graduate program. My wife has recently graduated with a Masters degree in Communication Studies.

What do you suppose are the chances of her finding a good job in or around Springfield that will pay well and she won't hate?! I have family in Spfld and they say "oh, no problem, the hospitals and colleges around here are looking for HR/PR, etc... people all the time." Is this true, or is it just the family wanting us to move there?

We're already in it for the long-haul, but I just think I want a second opinion from some disinterested parties! Thank you so much!

I don't live in Springfield but I have been looking into the Branson area and I go on Craigslist all the time (under Springfield) to find out about jobs and housing etc. I have seen several PR/HR jobs listed. You can also go onto the Hospital websites and see what they are looking for too. I think your family may be right...a job may not be too difficult to get for your wife. I see all kinds of job offerings for what you are going to school for in Southwest MO. GOOD LUCK !

Well, your screen name is certainly fitting.

You're asking complete strangers to tell you the odds of your wife finding a "good" job that pays "well" in the Springfield area that she won't hate. I'm not trying to rail on you, but how in the world is that possible?

1. What's a "good" job to her?
2. What do you consider "well" paid?
3. What does she want to do?

Perhaps you could narrow your questions down to some more specific points so that you can get some intelligent and constructive feedback.

I agree, you will need to narrow your possiblities down for others to help. I do know that the job market seems to be tight. Your family is correct that there seems to be alot of jobs posted where they need someone. I have found that each job that requires a higher degree seem to have 50+ apply for each job. I also know that people are driving farther to get a good job around here. My husband drives at least 72 miles a day to work. The pay doesn't seem to be best around to me, however it is okay for the cost of living. If one is going to hit hard times it is best to go through it where you have family that is for sure! My suggestion for you would be do some research. Most employers use job postings. And of course go to their company website! Good Luck!

Job markets in Springfield and throughout the Ozarks region, from the Oklahoma line east to Illinois, are very, very tight, tighter than I have seen them since the early 1980's and maybe tighter.

Not a good time to be moving or looking for work anywhere.

Thank you all for your replies. I've been looking around and it seems that the possibilities are better there, than here (that just seems to come along with the greater population). Once again, thank you for your input, it is appreciated.
