Amen, these stupid "reports" must be created by a bunch of marketers! Whoever has given enough ad revenue to the show gets the best ratings! Like Naperville, IL - just as expensive if not more than Chicago is! It is full of Chicago transplants eager to show off their earnings from the collapsed mortgage hedge funds- filling rapidly with McMansions - ew. And as much as I've been ragging on Chicago for crime, pollution, etc., I cannot help but mention that LA was on that list! LOL !What a frigg'n joke! I mean, LA is overpopulated, polluted as hell, rife with rival violent gangs and is currently on fire 6 months out of the year! WTF? And Hawaii? Half of the island is secured for native populations only- real estate included- so unless you are a millionaire, Honolulu is OUT for you! Talk about a bunch of crack heads- whoever wrote this report clearly did not have one! I'd reckon I would be safer in Springfield on Friday at 2 am downtown than I am in a Chicago residential neighborhood at 3 in the afternoon (with Police present)! After an evening of calling 911 to get the guy next door to release his dog from the prison of the back porch and dealing with the thugs who live up front and hang out all day doing nothing besides trying to sleep with Middle school students and smoke dope on my stairs, I'll take Springfield. Ooo. Sounds scary!

Who ARE the people creating these lists?
What demographic do they dwell within?
I note that Modesto, California ranks better than Springfield.
Modesto was my departure point when i fled, forced out of my home state.
In 1993 during the three days before departure the gang bangers fire bombed the apartment building behind mine, part of an ongoing turf war regarding drug sales and hearing full-auto weapons fire was not unusual.... along with a dozen and more cop cars headed in the direction of the fire fight.
Occasionally following affairs there from afar I used the Web and noticed that crime kept increasing in rate, numbers and viciousness.
I also noted the growth of the Chicano gangs and the increasing number of illegal entrant gang members.
At one point Modesto was rated the numero uno stolen vehicle capital of the USA.
So, due to ski resorts three hours away and the gay bastion of San Francisco two hours away Modesto rates higher than Springfield?
Well, the politically correct posse does embrace their undocumented "brown brethren" so maybe Modesto IS the better place.
I believe I will stick with Springfield and look askance at any "best list" unless I know all the parameters used to concoct that list and if those doing the concocting have been brainwashed with PC idiocy.

I would not put too much faith in these reports. When I was looking to move to Springfeild, Fortune 500 listed Springfield, as number 10 on the list of best cities to work and live in, due to low cost of living, low crime, low unemployment, good schools, and quality of life. These magazine flip on a dime. How can NY, NY be #23 when you can't send your kids to public schools because of REAL gangs, and the average home in over 1 Million for a 2 bedroom!
