Hi, We are looking at 40 ac of land north of hartville. We love the rural life. We have milkcows, nubian goats, Red Wattle hogs, chickens and 7 kids. Did I mention that I homeschool too? Looking for friendly contacts in that area. Would love any info too. We are coming from southeast Texas. We are tired of the Heat and Hurricanes! 4 in 4 years! Will be roughing it until home is built. We are down home country and proud of it. Sounds like we will fit in around there. Di'Anne

You sound like you'll fit in. You don't sound like poor citified Nexxie, who hated Hartville because it didn't have a mall or a park where she could take her child and visit with other mothers. She missed her Starbucks, by gosh!

Are you actually encouraging someone to move to not only Missouri, but Hartville?

Although, I do agree...reddell1 sounds like she'll would fit right in in Wright County. Missouri may not have hurricanes, but we do have tornadoes and ice storms. It also gets every bit as hot, humid, and miserable in Missouri as Texas, only here it is for a few weeks out of a year rather than months at a time.

Weird, ain't it?

But they're Texans; they raise cattle, hogs and chickens, they homeschool their kids. They sound like my kind of folks. These are the people I like to encourage to come to rural Missouri. They'll appreciate what we have, and what we don't have. It's the outsiders the rest of you are bringing in that disturbs me.

I just hope these folks aren't nudist hippies.

Heck, if they have 40 acres out in the country, and want to run around nekkid all day, why not? I doubt you'll be able to see them from Rolla

OK, OK, OK, if they can stand the ticks and chiggers and aren't afraid of getting snakebit on their privates, they can be itching, scratching, nudist hippies out of sight on their own property, I guess.

Well Reddell1, this explains why so many Californians say "I would move to the free state of Texas-if only I could stand the weather!". Now, I know what they mean. You should build a dome home-they stand up to anything. Tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, termites, whatever. I love them. At least you have chosen a place that fits your lifestyle. Too many people think that they want the country-until they see that animals/farms/homes require work and grit. In New York City they call the super, in California they call the head of the homeowners association! Good luck.

reddell1: Welcome to the area. I just hope you make a living from your livestock, cause there are no jobs around here...unless you want to drive an hour and a half away (longer in bad weather). There's only one grocery store in Hartville, so if you want a Walmart or another choice for groceries, you can go to Marshfield or Mountain Grove. How "rough" will you be roughing it? It's already feeling like fall...cold weather's coming!
