We'll be moving to Springfield next year so I've been perusing housing now. Some are very close to railroad tracks so I was wondering mainly if the rail the crosses the 60/160 in between Scenic Ave and Kauffman Rd and also the rail that crosses the 60 near the 60/65 interchange, if either or both are still used and loud?

My major major major concern is the job market, how is the medical field there? Physical therapy-wise? Thank you.

I don't think they are busy as they use to be.Seems like I'm always there when the very long Coal Trains are coming through.

These are both spurs for the two coal burning power plants. At certain times of the year there will be very long coal trains every day. The noise is largely a function of the location of grade level crossings (where they have to sound their horns) relative to your specific location. Neither of the highway crossings you mention are at grade level, but if they cross a street on grade near you you WILL hear the horns.

So the noise doesn't bother you too much? When the trains blow their horns here you can hear it even 4 miles away...I assume it would be similar, and some of the places I've looked at in Springfield are practically a residential street away from the tracks. Thanks for the replies! I'm real excited to move there, I've been living in this crapshack city in Arizona for too long!

Better to have a job lined up before you move. Many people don't (and many have come to this forum to express their grief) and the job market is flooded because of that very reason and a lot of people end up struggling because of it. Start looking as soon as you can. I lived there in the 90s and it was the case back then even when the overall economy was good. I moved away from the area for better opportunities.
