Default Weather in Ozark/Nixa area

I know the weather changes daily but when we watch the weather channel it seems Springfield gets very intense weather -- true? Very cold in winter, very hot and humid in summer?
Thanks for your answers.

Hillman is right. The popular saying in Missouri is that if you don't like the weather, wait a day. It will be different.

I will disagree with anyone who says that Springfield has very cold winters. We'll get a few cold snaps, but very rarely stay below freezing for more than a couple of days. I can't even remember a time when temps got below zero, so there's not any bitter cold around these parts.

Hard for me to remember but I think it was the winter of '84-'85 Christmas Day it was -14,snow had 65 HWY down to one lane in many places. We decided to go to Louisiana.Got down there people were freezing to death down there.

I thought well if we're going to be cold might as well be cold.Moved to Colorado Mountains 160 inches of snow.

Seems li9ke the Winter of '81-'82 was cold and stayed cold.

Yea...it seems some people have a lower tolerance for cold. It feels good to me in the 50's and 60's. My mom gets on the wool footies...flannel shirt because she is so cold natured. I usually don't start wearing a coat till it is below 40 and sometimes below freezing.

Actually, I feel more comfortable when in Colorado. The drier air seems lest cold. Here, I'm cold when it is 60 deg. out. There, I can be outside in shirtsleeves at 50 deg.

One year I moved from California Christmas Eve almost froze the rest of the Winter.

Moved from Colorado in June one year almost burnt up that Summer.

I thinking a person needs to be eased into whatever weather Missouri has to offer.I use to drive OTR talking about a shock go from Temps in the 70's and 80's and going to Minus Temps over night

Hot and cold is interpreted subjectively, to a certain extent.

The summer humidity hereabouts adds to the summer scourge.

But, it is more humid further south and to the north there is also humidity but for perhaps a week or two less for the season than here.

Air conditioning nullifies much outside weather misery unless you have to work outside a controlled interior climate.

If concern about climate is extreme decide what you tolerate best, check the many Web sites offering climate data averages and use that to assist in selecting an area.

At the least, SW Missouri is outside the MAIN tornado belt but twisters are not all that rare hereabouts.

Generally, though, the largest deadliest F-5 cyclones tend to be further west.
