My hubby is having a birthday soon and I would like to treat him to a day or two at the Downstream Casino near Joplin.

We traditionally LOVE casinos and have spent a lot of time in the Native American ones in Colorado and New Mexico. However, one time we went to the Miami, Oklahoma Casinos and came home a day early because they were so awful.

I have seen the website for Downsteam and it looks pretty nice, but I am still a little hesitant after our Miami fiasco.

Anyone that has been to Downstream, can you tell me a little about it? We are looking for something as close to a Vegas "style" as possible. Certainly some place that has good food and a lounge that is open 24/7 or at least late. We'd probably be staying at the hotel as well so if anyone has stayed there, info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Thumbs up Nicer Place

I've been there several times. My mom is a "penny slot junkie" and when she's out here I take her for the day. It's a nice casino with a nice hotel attached. The slots are tight but I figure I can pay a little Oklahama tax once in while. I can't compare it to the one you referenced as I've never been there, but Down Stream is very similiar to one of the Station Casino's in Las Vegas if you've ever been to one. The buffet is okay..nothing spectacular, but the dinner house is pretty good.

I also took her to Planet Hollywood in Tulsa a couple of weeks ago. It used to be Cherokee or something like that. It's a nice place now. They've done a lot of remodeling. Buffet is marginal if your into buffet's. However, they have a couple of other nice places. The slots weren't as tight as Downstream. It's about 45 minutes further just into Tulsa (before the airport). They seem to be trying to attract some better entertainment too.

We've been to the Downstream several times and always have a good time. The buffet is very good and we look forward to eating there! The slots can be a bit tight, but at least half of the time we've gone, we've broken even, which is always great. It's in a safe place and it's always very clean and the employees are very helpful!

The Arizona, New Mexico and California Indian owned casions are entirely differenet out west than they are in the Midwest. I've been in MO, OK, LA and KS casinos and was not overlu impressed.for a number of reasons. You will probably find what you are looking for at St. Louis where there are 5-6 casionos including Harrah's. It would be a nice treat for hubby. You should be able to get a deal on a room any day except on weekends. Here's a link.

Downstream is nice for this area but it's not a Vegas style casino by any means. It doesn't even really stack up against the larger casinos in either KC or St. Louis. I've been to Vegas and Downstream is not like anything in Vegas, more like a country cousin at best.

Personally, I prefer the many Native American casinos (which Downstream is, by the way) and visit them when I want a little R & R.
