Splettstoesser,

There is 1 employment agency in Marshfield. It's Penmac. They are located on Spur drive in the 'Plaza View' shopping center along with 'Dancy's' restaurant.

If you visit the Marshfield Chamber Of Commerce website, there is a list of businesses on the first page that might give you a better idea of the potential employers in town.

Another resource you might want to check out is the 'Marshfield Mail' (broken link), Marshfield's local newspaper. You might get a better idea of what Marshfield is about there

Marshfield is a small town of approx 5000+. A fair number of employers are small, with a lot of them being fast food or retail businesses. Although new businesses are slowly trickling in, such as Auto Zone & Walgreens. So, the city is growing at a nice pace. Which is good for the economy, but honestly, I hope it doesn't get too big to outgrow the small, country charm it has.

Hope this helps,
Boof

And that's the tricky part.

So I was just browsing again, and its funny what a year brings. Well we are here in Marshfield and we are not happy. We are going to go back to AK but this time we are going to go to Anchorage. If you are looking for work, Marshfield is not the place. Most ppl go to Springfield, unless you want minimum wage. As for the town, well not that cute. I think that all the taxes we pay here, the least the community can do is take care of its structures. Over all this place is not for our family. I think that its great to those who have made it their home. My lesson in this, is no matter what you read on here about any place you move too, you won't really know til you get there. Good luck.

Well, I am not happy with the school here. That is a major problem for me. I also don't like the fact of paying a personal property tax for my vehicle and boat and so forth. As far as the people, I have made a few friends and do not mean this mean, but the people I deal with going to stores and such, are not friendly. The cashiers seem to hate their job and want no interaction with you what so ever. The last place we lived, they were friendly and would make small talk with you and just made shopping more enjoyable. Then there are the people in the stores walking around that can't even say excuse me. I find myself saying it and they don't respond. I guess just common courtesy is lost, unless you are from here, whole different story then. Again, this is just from my experience, I know that there are some wonderful people here and am not knocking them. I am just not happy here and can't move til next year.

I think this line from post 6 might be part of the answer "you'll find the majority of people here that aren't originally from missouri come from california (myself included). "

Marshfield didn't used to be unfriendly like this. Not to bash you California folks, but there has been such an influx from that state in such a short time, I think you are in danger of turning Missouri into the place you are trying to get away from. I don't blame people from wanting to leave California, but remember you always take yourself with you wherever you go.

Tigerlilly, wish the best for you. There is no one golden state for everyone and maybe AK was really the best fit for you after all.

Hiya MOviaCA,

As you will see in my previous post, I was born & raised in CA, and didn't leave CA until 9 mos ago. I NEVER thought I would leave, but....here I am. And I say that to let anyone know that I will always be a 'CA Girl' at heart, and will not hesitate to tell anyone. Ever!!! I am very proud from where I come, and am ready to stand up and defend whatever it may be that needs defending....the same as I would if I were in a different country. USA all the way!!! But....I digress....back to the subject....

In the 9 months we've been here, not one time have we told someone we were from CA and had them treat us with even the slightest bit of disdain or rudness. Actually, it's quite to the contrary. We've had MANY people hear us talk about being from CA, and they come up to us and join the conversation, eventually adding that if we need anything, not to hesitate to ask.

Another time, we'd met a lady while standing outside a restaurant. We stood and visited for about 30 mins, and everyone walked away smiling. About a week later, I ran into her in the parking lot of the grocery store, and again, we stood and visited for about 20-30 mins. I'd only met her once, but she still stopped what she was doing to chat with her new friend. Things like this have happened numerous times. And they all knew we were from CA. Alternatively, I was also willing to stop what I was doing to visit with her. It's a 2 way street.

Now, touching on what Silvermouse says....I'm afraid that it is true what she says. People leave their homes to get away from the rat race, rudeness and crime to find a better, happier way of life, yet they bring the bad attitudes and behavior with them. THAT'S the problem right there. When I encounter a rude driver or something, I automatically think....'they're from out of state'. Now, being from CA, it has taken a little adjusting to get used to driving slower, and just slowing down in general. But that's what we came for, and so it is US (the newcomers)that must adjust our way of living....not the other way around. Because THE LAST thing I want to see is Missouri turning into California!!!!

With that said, I have to agree with Tigerlilly on the attitude of some of the workers here. Many do not seem happy. Now, whether it's with their jobs or just being unhappy in general, I don't know. But there does seem to be a dire need for some 'customer service' training. In fact, the next time I go into a store and am met with an unfriendly attitude, I'll provide some gentle feedback to the manager. Because nothing will change unless we say something.

But ultimately, regardless of where you go....you don't know what it will be like until you get there.

Tigerlilly, I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience in Marshfield. It's a bit discouraging when you relocate to a town, and you're filled with excitement & anticipation for new experiences & adventures, only to have your dreams and expectations be crushed. I guess not everywhere is for everyone, and we've all got to find our places. Hopefully you'll find the happiness you seek when you return to Alaska. I sincerely hope so. You deserve it!!!

Just my 2 cents,
Boof

Thank you Boof, for taking that the way it was meant. I truly didn't mean to insult anyone. Everyplace has homegrown stinkers too!

I notice this attitude in Lebanon sometimes, but Rolla usually has excellent service and friendly workers. Go figure.

One more thing Boof, you seem to have a great personality. You would be welcome in my neck of the woods anytime!
