Casselli you keep harping on the state disability thing. 43 other states along with Utah do not offer state disability. Of the remaining 6 that do only California has the exclusion to prior exisiting conditions. I'm sorry you were struck with a horrible disease such as cancer, but that is not the state of Utah's fault. You make it sound like all ills are the fault of this state. Another thing is that it is not only non Mormons that have trouble finding jobs, but the Mormons as well. It is also not just females that have problems, it is the males as well. The job market here just plain sucks. Yeah I don't have to work in this state. I have a fun part time job in the summers, but most the time I'm off traveling for what work I do. I get paid a ridiculous amount for my work as well. I have been doing it for over 30 years and have the rep to go with it internationally. I wish I could get ya'll into my work, but it is a long road to get to my level.

A job that does have some really good benefits but is not the highest paying is at the state run schools for troubled youth, like Cinnamon Hills. Starting is $10/hr. It at least pays more than minimum, and has all the health benefits, along with vacation etc. They do nice Christmas bonuses as well, along with turkey's for the holiday(s). They are always looking for good people. It's a good stepping stone to be known and get experience in the state jobs. It helps to have local references like that.

Thumbs up You Said The Magic Words "dinner & Drinks" For New Friends!

Yes, I wonder if we have crossed paths before or maybe it's time to cross paths now? Life can be full of surprises...you just never know. We never thought that we would be living here and here we are! Now, were looking to move forward and seek other new life adventures. Let's see where our life journey takes us now.

We would like to move to North Carolina. It is so beautiful and so green with lots of tall tall trees everywhere and the beach is only 2 hours away from the city. Lots of historical places to visit and the job market is much better.

What were looking forward to is the diversity in meeting new people. North Carolina is the place to be. Can't wait! But I still have a mission here in St. George...gotta see all the beautiful national parks, horse backriding, hiking, more family and friends want to visit and when I'm all done and ready..ADIOS but we will have spare bedrooms for our friends from Utah to visit anytime.

So you said the magic words "dinner and drinks" sound great. Send me an email and anyone else interested please feel free to contact any of us. Bring friends.

Ok, I will email ya....thats how I feel about Washington state...green, green, green....and the trees. Yah, it rains, but compared to 4 months of 100+ who cares. My best girlfriend and I were chatting on the phone a couple weeks ago and she said ' why did you move to the desert...you hate the desert'. Touche...we never really thought of this as 'desert' I guess....Wrong again.

I just got back from a month in WA, my skin was just soaking up the moisture and my skin stopped itching...I didn't realize how dry it was here, either. I should have taken the advise I give everyone else, check it out first and rent, rent, rent...

Later...

PS Anyone interested in a happy hour or something email me or Cassellis....would be fun!

I Was Not Responding To Your Posting That Was Sent To Me.

Again, It Was Sent To Me By Member C44 (as You Are Free To Read).

I Never Said That Utah Was At Fault For My Personal Illness With "cancer"! I Find That You Are Extremely Rude!

You Say It As If Were Just The "chickenpox Virus."

Well, Maybe All The Other 43 States Should Join In By Setting Up A Good Benefit For All Americans Citizens. State Disablity Is Not Welfare! While Your Employed It A Very Small Amount Is Taxed From Your Paycheck, Something Like $5.00 (depends On Income) And If You Become Ill Or Need A Face Lift, You Are Able To Get Paid 68% Of Your Income Up To One Year Or Ask For Additional Extension Or Save It For A Rainy Day, In Case You Need To Use It For Time Off Due To Illness Or Even For Funeral Time Off. I Don't Think That 3 Days Off With Pay For Family Funeral Is Enough Time To Grieve, Not Even A Week. Some Of Us Need Time For Healing And The State Disability Benefit Is One Of The Best Benefits That An American Citizen Could Use In A Time Of Need.

An Example, If I And My Husband Were To Get Into An Accident, And We Were Both Hurt To A Point That We Were Unable To Work. We Can Apply For State Disabitily (not Welfare) And Get Paid While We Get Treatment And Therefore We Can Still Pay Our Mortgage, Car Payment, Or Rent, Food Or Whatever And Not Be Left Homeless Due To Not Having A Great Benefit As "state Disability".

I Would Appreciate It You Stop Harping And Bragging On Your 30 Years Of Working And Living Here And Knowing This And Knowing That. Honestly, Have You Read Some Of The Posting From Other Members That Are Tired Of You Thinking You Know All The Answers To Everything?

At Least I Have Found Some Members Interested In Starting A "new Friendship" Place To Meet New Relocators. I Guess If We Can't Find Good Paying Jobs Or Get State Disability We Can At Least Make The Best Of It And "meet New Friends".

Well, I Won't Keep Ya Cuz You Gotta Work Work Work And Keep Answering Every Question In This Forum. I'm Not As Smart As You So You Gotta Do All The Work I Guess?

And Again....i Would Appreciate That You Not Mock Me About My Personal Cancer Illness. I'm Actually Proud That I Fought And Won The Battle. I'm Going On My 4th Year Survivor!!! That God For State Disability And All The Great Benefits That My Employer Provided Or I Wouldn't Be Here Enjoying The Beauty Of St. George And Making New Friends, Mormon And Non-mormon...there Are Still (my) Friends.

In The Meantime, Learn How To Be A Little More Respectful With Those Of Us Who Have Faced Difficult And Still Facing Difficult Situations. I Encourage You To Read Posts From C44, Dogmom And Many Others That Are Going Through Difficult Situations Living Here In St. George.

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

Casselli.....
I never belittled your cancer. I said I was sorry you got it. To take offense and get all upset about something I was saying I was sorry you got is childish in the extreme. I don't play the victim game. You wanted the state of Utah to come in and take care of you. Disiability or welfare there is no difference really. One happens when you are sick the other for whatever reason. Both are taxes taken out of your paycheck by the state. Catostrophic insurance is cheaper and doesn't come out of your paycheck directly. that is one you purchase and control. In a state where the wages are ridculously low another tax to be taken is a burden some in this state can't afford. If you haven't noticed the taxes here are not that much less than California. Yet you have noticed the wages are much lower. This is not California, and never will be. It begs the question of if you love California and all the rich people there so much, why did you ever move here?

Now as to those tired of me answering questions. There is only one other that has said anything similiar and that is the don't move to Washington lady who has a problem with breaking traffic laws and then whines when she gets to take responsibility for her actions. In fact it would be interesting to see what her isp address is compared to yours, since you use the same phrases and tone in your writings.

BTW Casselli want the name of my oncologist in the San Francisco area? 8 years and doing well with no reoccurance. There are others who have had the bad times as well. I guess I should have applied for state disabiltity. Never occured to me.

Why is it that when the wild exagerations you claim are even questioned by the moderators it is me that you decide to vent back at? I point out the crap. It is not paradise here, nor is hell. People come here without researching out what it is like. This forum is to give them input in that research. But to give out false information is not good. Yes there are many who have bad experinces. Those are the ones who blindly came here with out checking. I would never move to a place without having a job secured first. I don't care how much I wanted to live there it is one of those basic neccessities that you have to have a way to pay for that living there first. The jobs here are easy enough to find out about by calling the State employment offices. They can give you an accurate picture of what is available. It is not just women or non Mormons who are having trouble, it is everyone. It is male/female, Mormon/Non Mormon, Everyone is hit with the same crappy job situation. That is why I suggested starting a thread about good jobs that are available in the area, that we network and find out about. But i guess that is not a solution to you Casselli since I made that suggestion to be proative instead of whining about the situation. Dogmom bless her heart is running with that suggestion and I applaud her for it.

As to my living here for the past 30 years, you and Washington lady do not read what I post do you! I have said repeatedly I moved BACK here 2 years ago after being gone for 27 years. I've lived all over the country in that time, 15 years of that in So Cal. and No Cal. In fact if the name Knudsen rings a bell it will give you a bit of background about my family. Yeah I know this state, and I know a heck of a lot of people that live in this end of it. I also know So Cal well since my family is down there still. But I have not LIVED here for the past 30 years. Another assumption you have made without reading the posts. Maybe I should answer every post as you claim, but I find that I don't need too. Many others give out the same advise, and facts. It is when I stumble upon the exagerations and no one else has answered that i do answer. Check it yourself, you will see I haven't answered them all. I also do not spend all day on here like you and Don't move to Washington have asserted. I check it a couple of times a day, when I'm near my computer. Seems a core group here do the same thing. Why not tell them they are on here too much as well? Or are you selective about that as well?

Back to the basis of this thread...,.,.

St. George is a nice place if you enjoy this kind of environment (climate and scenery) It is also a nice place crime wise, since it very low (that doesn not mean it is exempt from crime) It is a place where people are much friendlier and helpful than most other places. Yes there are Mormons, but you will find relgions everywhere you go why be so upset by Mormons? There is no shunning, the people like any place you go will have their little groups they socialize with. Those groups here will try and include you, but if you turn them down repeatedly, they stop inviting. Here the activities are all tied up with the Mormon church, so it is natural to assume it is because you are non Mormon. California the neighbors there you might meet if you are lucky, but the norm there is to never know your neighbors. In the South if you are not 5th or 6th generation old line families from the South, you are avoided as well as a yankee. In New Mexico, if you are not hispanic you have a hard time. I could go on about all sorts of place in the country that have different morays about socializing. No matter where you go there is adjustment. The jobs here are crap! The housing here for what you get and the wage scale is even worse. It is not the number one place in the contry for real estate fraud. That distinction belongs to Washington state followed by California, then Florida, and next North Carolina. For the size of St. George, it has the distinction of being one of the highest in the new wave of forclosures. Larger metro areas, have more, but per capita St. George is one of the top. In a few years that will translate to lower real estate prices. That has not really hit here yet since the greed factor still rules.

Any place you move too you have to investigate it and decide if you can first afford the area, and second if it has what you want in the way of services. Third would be to see if you like the prevailing culture in the area. There will be trade offs moving. Not all will be exactly what you want or desire in a new area.

Interesting..We are all from the same area..I was born in Pasadena and graduated from San Gabriel High School in 1973...My husband graduated from Rosemead in 1971...

Our 19 year old daughter lives in Temple City, but our son and family moved here next door to us...I am glad they are here..I think I would have been lost without anybody...

If and when y'all decide to get together count me in...It might be fun!
