Ok, Coolcat is probably going to shut this thread down now due to 'personal bantering' so I am going to pm whoever wants to meet. Quite a coincidence that we are all from the same place..
purplegrapes: I graduated from Arcadia HS in 71...probably saw each other at football games..go apaches!
Hey, anyone besides me miss Clearman's Northwoods Inn? I could sure enjoy a steak sandwich and red cabbage.
Later
P.S. my parents lived in Bermuda Dunes, next to LaQuinta for many years before moving here with us....

BTW speaking of Clearman's they tore the boat down..It's temporary though..They are building a new shopping center in there...In the mean time you can get their menu inside of Northwoods during lunch..There is nothing like their cheese bread and cabbage salad...Ahhhh..
Today my husband was wearing his t-shirt from The Hat...Does that strike a chord at all? ...Burp.....

And cheese bread and red cabbage...maybe I DO want to move back home...
We lived in Claremont from 1997 - 2003, just a hop, skip & jump from Rancho.

I've been living in Washington for over a year now. Had I read this forum, I probally would not have moved here. Originally from Hawaii, lived in Cali for 12 years, moved to Salt Lake-lived there for about 12 years, and now am down here. Can't figure out why I'm here yet.
I have been trying to find a job for the past year. I am educated-Graduate Degree. Over 12 years experience in sales, marketing , and communications.
I was so desperate, I applied for a job at a convience store. Of course, they didn't hire me-I think they thought my app. was a joke.
I wish I had a video of all the job interviews I went to in this town. I used to do the hiring at my last job, so I am familiar with the process and am very comfortable with being interviewed. At some of the interviews, I was asked if I had a problem with praying. Now, I am non-LDS. don't have a personal problem with praying, BUT???? What the heck is going on here?
I understand that I re-located to a low-paying job market, but am I mistaken to believe that this neck of the woods is part of the United States of America? Did I mention that I am a female? I swear the interviews I went to conducted by men were downright condescending!
Are there any companies out there willing to hiring a hard working, loyal, educated, non-LDS females? If so, PLEASE contact me! I have excellent references, great work ethics, and am willing to start at this point at the bottom! Thanks for any leads!
P.S., are there any social clubs or activities that connect non-LDS people? It is really hard to make friends here.

I really feel for you, poor thing. My husband and I also regret having moved to the St. George area. We are from southern California and assumed that the same standards that existed in Cali would exist in southern Utah, but they don't. The mentality of many native people here is back in the 1800s. My husband is a convert to the LDS church and he told me that if saw how people acted here he would never have joined the church. The other night we were over by the outlets and there was a car with a license plate frame that said, "Welcome to Utah...now go home."

Hi there Rhondamama...join the club..where in SoCal are you from? We are from Claremont, born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley along with hubby.
It's really hard to describe what it's like here...I try to tell our friends, it just doesn't come out right...I think you hit it on the head..it's like living in a past century..I have always had a lot of respect for the LDS members we knew in CA, but living here the past 2 years has just left a bad taste. I just don't get it.
I'm so glad that I am not job hunting...like c44. Pay is horrible (I read yesterday in the newspaper that substitute teachers earn around $60 a day- I about fell over...subs in my school back home made at least $110 a day, minimum) and I think the first time I asked where the coffee machine is would be the end of any kind of working friendships. Bad enough to be shunned in my neighborhood, much less at work.
I have not seen that license plate or bumper sticker 'Welcome to Utah, Now Go Home'. That's a good one.. Wish we had seen that before we decided to come here. Wish I had found this website, too. We would never have made the move.
