I posted this on the Utah forum and got some good info from another poster. Trying it here to see what others may be able to tell me.

Is there anyone who lives in this area of Cedar City or can tell me more about that specific area. I have seen a lot of very beautiful homes for sale in that area. I have also heard there may be one of more homes in that area that are having sinking problems. They need to have the foundation stabilized and this could cost ten of thousands if not hundreds of thousands.

Thanks!

I know I already posted to you about this issue on the other thread. I'm curious about any other responses as well, I hope more people have something to add. In searching, I did find a couple of reports, one from 1977 and one from 1991. Both have maps of the area on their last pages which analyze the various areas of town. Since many streets have been built since these reports were made it only helps with general areas, not street by street. Reading the first one especially, it appears that that there always has been more geologic activity here than I previously understood. http://ugspub.nr.utah.gov/publicatio...ons/RI-124.pdf http://ugspub.nr.utah.gov/publicatio...s/CR-91-10.pdf

Hi again Cedarite,

I'm suprised no one else has responded. My brother lives on W 6100 N and he doesn't have any problems. You don't have to give me your address but just curious what general area of the city you are in.

I did read some reports about the area. Seems like the problem is wide spread according to the maps.

I live in the Leigh Hill area of that helps any. We have cracks and as I mentioned on the other thread settling apparent in the back half of the house, but it's 40 years old so if that's all there is after 40 years, I'm not overly worried at this point.

The problem is wide spread, you would need to have the land surveyed by a compent company
to be even half way sure.

Cedarite,

Thanks for bringing the article to my attention as we are thinking about St. George as a possibility also.
