It's always been a topic of discussion among folks young and old seeking things to do besides the everyday dinner and a movie. As the city has grown and become more diverse and dynamic, also being home to a growing university, I can't help but wonder why St. George doesn't have more mainstream concerts and shows of varied music genres.

The attractive Dixie Convention Center for whatever reason, appears to sit vacant most of the time when it's a prime venue for holding shows, stand up comedy, major concerts etc. on a regular basis. It has a new, convenient freeway interchange and ample parking for event traffic.

St. George is the hub of southern Utah, in fact it's the largest city in the state outside of the Wasatch Front!... A place where people come to shop, golf, eat, outdoor recreate, stay, do business, go to college, what have you...but not to be entertained or dazzled by any regular occuring concerts coming through? I can't help but compare the area to other similar-sized cities like Ogden, UT, Grand Junction, CO or Flagstaff, AZ, where, after researching, they all have regular shows and concerts at their venues all the time. It's kind of an expected thing in any other city I've lived in this size.

I don't know who/what is in involved in getting more concerts and shows , whether it be local radio station sponsors, the college, the City...but we shouldn't still have to travel to Vegas or SLC to catch a big ticket concert or show.

The impression I have gotten of St. George residents is that they might be very interested in a concert with Bing Crosby or Al Jolson

I don't perceive the audience for such shows. Locals are older, lots of retirees, and conservative.

Why bother when you have Las Vegas 1 hour and 30 minutes away by car from St. George.

If I was a St.George resident, I would like for my city to stay low profile and not have too much traffic with big events.....something about St George that I like, I don't know what it is, the feeling of a nice city.....different than Northern Utah and even Las Vegas.

I agree. Add less expensive housing, outstanding shopping and restaurants, no state income tax - you've got the reason my wife and I bought a retirement home in Las Vegas rather than St. George.
