Hi, we (my wife and I) are emigrating to st. george in the coming year. We are German and our english is not very good. Are there any other German or americans who speak German in St. George? We are looking for friends to learn the language as quickly as possible. Also we do not know all rules.

Does anyone here have a tip on how we can make the best?

Many thanks for every tip.

George

Sorry for my bad english (with google translate)

Check with the German Consulate.
They may have the addresses or contact information of German Groups in that area.

George,

Willkommen. Ich habe nur ein paar jahre Deutsch mit oberschule. Aber, mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut.

There are tens of thousands of European tourists visiting here every year. In fact, there have been a number of times I've visited Zion where English was not the main language being spoken. So, it's an area or community used to foreign travelers. I think that might help with the transition, although I do not know if a German population of much size exists in the area. People are friendly and overall welcoming.

I have a few suggestions:

1) You might consider contacting the St. George Tourism Office (Toll Free: 1-800-869-6635). They might have someone who speaks German and can provide information or resources. Contact the St. George Utah Convention & Tourism Office

2) There is a German restaurant in Orderville, just east of Zion. I'm guessing the owner speaks German or has German ties and might be able to provide you resources/contacts in St. George. Backerie Forscher 435-648-3040.

3) Similar to what irman said above, members of the Mormon (LDS) church do missions around the world. If you contact their St. George temple visitors center, they might be able to have former missionaries who spent 2 years in Germany contact and assist you. 435-673-5181. https://www.lds.org/locations/st-geo...isitors-center

Good luck!

I don't know a lot of details, but Santa Clara (a small town just N of St George) does or did have a lot of Swiss immigrants, & holds an annual Swiss Days festival. You should go there & see how many of the popular speak the Swiss version of German.

Hi George,
My Sister-in-law is from Germany, and my brother speaks fluent German. They are not here full time, but are down here quite a bit. I know they would be more than happy to help you make the transition. They would probably be able to give you more insight and connections to others. PM me and I can put you in contact with them.
