we are thinking of buying a home in Kanab Utah. we would pay it cash so no payments but will need jobs to pay for living there. are there jobs there wife works for lowes and know they don't have one there. but are there retail jobs there. I usually drive loader but also know auto sales and manufacturing. although we live in las vegas now but we don't like the load music and fact there to many people. we would like to get some four wheelers and boat and start enjoying life stead of just work and home.

Why Kanab???? Have you even been there??? There is nothing out there. You should research more on the internet. Retail job at Lowes would mean St. George, Utah or Washington, Ut. You can still buy houses for reasonable price. Good luck!

Kanab? I hear Montezuma's treasure is buried out there... There is also a gigantic homeless animal sanctuary out there which, as an animal lover, I've been meaning to visit. But man, Kanab is clear out in the middle of no where.

If you're set on a small town I'd consider maybe Delta, Roosevelt or Ephraim. Those places at least have something going for them in the way of an economy and a few other towns within a couple hours. Kanab is like... the previous poster said it well, it would be like moving to the moon.

For whom ?

15 hotels, a lake (No idea if there is water in it ?), a small airstrip, and very few people comparatively.
15 hotels in such a small town which a poster says it is similar to the moon ?
34 restaurants !
Unbelievable, but they have a *Radio Shack* ...

The *bedroom* community has homes with nice size lots !

The requirements of the OP:
<<<we don't like the loud music and fact there (are) too many people.
we would like to get some four wheelers and boat and
start enjoying life stead of just work and home. >>>

If it was not so hot there, I would move there !
For work at WallyWorld, about 90 minute drive.

If you are an *outdoor junkie*, almost perfect for those who like southern Utah landscapes !

Night Life ?
I agree ... , nothing there !

34 restaurants?????? Where? Any shopping (other than a "quickie mart type") is quite a distance.

People who choose to live in such small towns knowingly do so,
and thus have no problems with shopping at *quickie mart type* places !

Keep in mind :
*start enjoying life*, is what the OP specified.
This statement is a very personal choice, and NOT to be influenced by anybody else.
If shopping at big markets is your kind of enjoying life, than that is your choice !

All the OP wanted to know is if there were jobs available !
They did NOT ask about shopping !
They did NOT ask about *is it like the moon*

Apparently, all they want is some simple small town life,
where they can at least get some job that will pay for their necessities !
Necessities !!! Not luxuries !!!

Have you actually spent time in Kanab?

Many of the hotels & some of the restaurants are seasonal, and I know at least one restaurant on the list has closed, and I know of a couple others that will probably be closing this year. The "small airstrip" is a decent-sized airfield.

There are plenty of nice houses with nice lots, going for a pretty big chunk of $$ for being out in the middle of nowhere because there are enough wealthy out of towners who've consumed the 'Best Friends Kool-Aide' & buy secondary houses in the Kanab area so they can visit a month or two out of the year or out of the fantasy that they'll retire to Kanab, volunteer/work at Best Friends & live happily ever-after.

Plenty of small, older houses without nice-sized lots that might be more in the price range of someone who works at Lowes.

Kanab can be a nice place to visit, but not to live there. Many people find this out the hard way.

C'est la vie!

Yep, I like it there.
We usually fly in, stay for a while and then go on somewhere else.
I just like small towns I guess.
