"eye vins"

...and if you want to be taken as a local, don't do what I did and pronounce Hurricane with the traditional pronunciation. To St. George natives, it's "her ih-khn"

OK, lets try this:

How the Guide to English Pronunciation of Book of Mormon Names Came About - Mary Jane Woodger - Journal of Book of Mormon Studies - Volume 9 - Issue 1

Scroll down to the part that talks about how to pronounce words with 2 syllables.

Agree on the pronouncing of Hurricane.

Agree on the pronouncing of Hurricane.

Sure, I don't think we disagree that the accent is on the first syllable. What I think WildWestDude is questioning is whether it is "ih' vins" or "eye' vins." Everybody I know seems to pronounce it "eye' vins."

*heh* ...just go with "eye' vihns" and "hur' ih khn" and they'll think you're a St. George native.
