Is St George worth the visit?
My family and I will be vacationing in Utah this summer, and I wanted to know if it would be worth the drive to St George, coming from Zion National Park.
I am interested about golfing in St George, because there are many cool sounding courses there, plus I've never golfed in the desert before, so that would be pretty interesting.
But, I just got this brochure abouth the St George area, and it did not seem to mention anything really unique to the area, (I'm not too interested in the natural beuty right now, since I know I will be seeing plenty of that) It just said thay have a mall and some restaurants, along with hotels and stuff.
What is the downtown area like?
What about the temple?
Any other interesting areas of the city, or would it be best to just avoid St George all together?
Any info would be great, thanks.
Oh, and we're not coming fromo Las Vegas. We are driving from SLC to Zion. I know that you'd have to pass through SG to get to Zion from LV.

Why would you vacation is such a hot and desolate place? The temps will be well over 100 almost everyday during the summer.

There really isn't much interesting other than golfing & the natural beauty. Personally, I wouldn't make St. George a "destination," I would stop if I was driving through, but I wouldn't spend the time driving down there if it wasn't "on the way" to somewhere else.

Thanks, yeah unfortunatly we'll only be in Southern Utah for four days, so we need to do the most we can do in that short period of time. I guess we'll save St George for when we have more time.
But, just out of curiosity, what is the downtown like, and is the golfing really as great as the brochures make it out to be?

There is no downtown in St. George. There is an area with a bunch of outlet stores. There is a nice area with some restaurants off of the main road through the city. There is the winter home of Brigham Young (although not much to see). The temple is a nice building to see (don't go out of your way to see it). Not sure on the golf courses in the area (I don't golf). St. George is a great place to live, but only a great place to visit if you are there for the surrounding state and national parks or Tuacahn Outdoor Theater, and maybe the golf. Snow Canyon is an excellent smaller state park with a ton less people compared to Zions. There are some good small shops in Springdale, just outside of Zions.
Enjoy Southern Utah! It is an awesome place to be and experience.

The national parks are DEFINITELY worth the visit. I don't golf personally, but just the thought of golfing in the middle of the desert is intriguing.

Yeah, I know!! We will be visiting Zion and Bryce, and wil somehow cram all this in in just four short days! We're gonna be staying at this pretty cool resort just outside of Zion. It's called Zion Ponderrosa and has pretty much anything and everyhitng you would want to do. I'm really excited!!!!

I guess it's kinda' like going to Disneyland in Anahiem California. While the park is well worth the visit, at least once anyway, the city of Anahiem is just another suburban sprawl.

Yeah, I don't think that St George really has much going for it, but it deffinetly has plenty of potential to become a more exciting city. Their bragging about being one of the best counties in the country for plenty of reasons. You'd think that in a relativly short period of time, it will become more than just golf courses and lots of houses.
It's pretty cool how Utah has palm trees!
