I've retired here in June 2006 and I'm experiencing my 3rd summer and it's killing me with this heat. Don't get me wrong I really love the area but I'm a prisoner in my own home July and August. I love to go for walks to keep in shape 2 or 3 times a day and would always walk 6 or 7 miles on one of those walks, but since I moved here I have to be home before noon time or otherwise the sun and heat becomes unbearable let alone dangerous on a long walk. How do the lifelong locals keep in shape here

Early morning walks or runs, or one of the indoor tracks. I know..it's awful in July and August!

I imagine there are gyms there you can go too. I hope so. Doesn't it cool off at night a bit to go walking. I am moving there too, so would like to know

Welcome to my world..for the next few days, we are moving to WA state for a few months, then back to NorCal. At least there it cools down at night for the most part. I have never lived in such a dry, hot place, nor will I again..this has also been our 3rd summer...

It was really nice in the evenings when we were there.

Kinda chilly, actually.

Through the summer months it generally does not cool off much at night. July and August are the worst.
