St. George vs. Hurricane
My husband and I are considering moving to southern Utah. We are in our mid 40s, no children. We are looking at either St. George or Hurricane. We would like a safe, quiet neighborhood, yet affordable (under $200,000). We don't need brand new. Can we get this in St. George or would Hurricane be better?

There are other "suburbs" of St. George. Leeds, Santa Clara, Ivins, Washington , Coral Canyon that you might want to look out. Without having to worry about schools, play areas, etc you have a lot of choice. Just have to worry about commutes, shopping, even if you went North to Cedar there would be lots of choices. Look on Craigslist.com

Lots of homes under 200,000. We are looking there too. I heard Ivins is pretty quiet and nice, yet close to St. George. We are interested in Hurricane also. I will know after my trip there.

It's coming up. Heading to Vegas this week for wedding stuff, then home for a week, then fly to Salt Lake area Aug 30 and will drive to St. George Sept 1& 2. I will take lots of pictures but mostly of homes, no time to see much of the parks and scenery on this trip.

St George v/s Hurricane
Hurricane is affordable however unless your in a gated community no shopping, nothing to offer.
St George is not as affordable however if you can take advantage of a forcloser or short sale, there are places you can survive ok. Ivins which is just outside St George 10 min offers both things your looking for.

Hey bestshot or anyone from Hurricane. Any idea how expensive the power bill is? I am talking about renting a 2 bd, 2 bath condo and am use to Rocky Mountain Power. Can you tell me what the average power bill would be for a 2 bd condo? Anyone?

I live in Ivins, and I work in Hurricane (I have to drive through St. George to get from one to the other). I would say check out Ivins or St. George. In my opinion, Ivins is just so much prettier with the Red Mountains.

Ivins is so pretty with those mountains. Hurricane....the wind blows way to much and in my opinion too far from shopping etc. We ended up buying in Washington but my second choice would of been Ivins.

I just got back from a trip to Hurricane for a bike trip last weekend. The are surrounding Hurricane is gorgeous, I was really in awe. However, we could hardly find a place to eat after biking, and after driving around town a bit there really did not seem to be much there, and the town seemed a bit run down. Very pretty though.
