Default Problem in St. George?

I thought about living in St. George, but read about what happened back in the 50's with a Nueclear test cloud that drifted over the area, people had to be checked out for possible cancer, the possibility of neuclear waste being transported down the highway throgh the area, and the possibility of the Super Highway being built through that area. Makes one nervous to think they may continue to test in Nevada. Even though home sare cheaper to buy there, the waste is in the ground. Any comments?

As of now, the background radiation in Utah is no greater than the rest of the nation. Transportation of radiological waste and materials is an everyday occurrence throughout the United States, not just Utah, and virtually all of it is by common carrier.

In July 2002, the Senate gave approval for the Department of Energy (DOE) to use Yucca Mountain, Nevada as the National Nuclear Disposal Site. DOE now must apply to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for permits to begin actual use of the site for nuclear waste disposal. I do not know how far along this process is, but I suspect that disposal will begin in the near future.

Highways will arrive in one’s backyard sooner or later, regardless of where one might live. All we can hope for is to find a place sufficiently far from the beaten path that we will be dust in the ground by the time any asphalt ribbon reachs us.
