Hopefully someone can help on our trip to Zion
We will be arriving in the area on a Friday in June - staying Fri and Sat night before head back to Vegas to go home.
The hotel I had picked in Springdale is booked. So I need to find another place and St George seemed a better place (I liked the price of Best Western Coral Hills or Crystal Inn). However it has been suggested that other areas would suit better - Hurricane or find another hotel in Springdale.
This will be the end of a 10 day trip for us thru Vegas, Laughlin, Phoenix, Sedona/GC, and Page. We are not hikers or even really 'outdoorsy' so we like the easy hikes and typical sightseeing. Of course the focus of this leg of the trip is to see Zion on Saturday. I do not see us spending more than 3 or 4 hrs in Zion - I think we will be on scenery overload by the end of this trip .
We will be winding down and just want to see cute little shops , and stroll around a town that has mom & pop type restaurants for B,L,D. Maybe see the Brigham Young house or something like that - nothing real time consuming - but I also do not want a town that shuts down at 6 pm.
So is St George the place for us? Is one of the other towns better suited? Thanks for your input - I NEED to finish making these hotel reservations today and stop procrastinating!

Because of its size there is more to do (and more shopping) in St. George than in the other communities. My concern, though, is that St. George is about 60 miles from Zion National Park. You'll have a long drive going there and back and that alone will consume a couple of hours of your time. You could stay in Hurricane and it would be a little closer. However, there isn't much to do in Hurricane. If you decide to stay in St. George in addition to the motels you mentioned, you might also consider the Budget Inn Suites. Its located near the Bluff Street Exit/Entrance to I-15. It has quite a few amenities including hot tub, two pools (indoor and outdoor), and an exercise room.
If you want some relatively easy hiking in Zion National Park, I'd suggest you go to the Emerald Pool trail. Its right across the road from the Zion's Park Lodge. There is actually a lower pool and an upper pool both, so you can either keep going or cut the hike short. If you want too, after that hike you can drive a couple of miles up the road and see Weeping Rock. A mile beyond that there is a short hike that takes you to the Virgin River Narrows. Its all very beautiful country. If you are tired and don't want to hike than the drive through the park on the main highway is pretty nice too. Make sure you get out of your car when you get to the top and see "Checkerboard Mesa".

Thanks! I am not as concerned about the drive in to Zion because my main issue is having things to do when we arrive on Fri afternoon and then Sat afternoon/eve. Plus, St George is closer to head back to LV for our 2:30 flight on Sun. Just want to make sure there will be plenty for us to do in St George, or if one of the other cities is better suited.

I think you would love Springdale if you could find a place to stay there. Nice downtown area walk, more "touristy" than St. George, which is really more of a business district except the walking tour of Brigham home and there is a little square with art shops and a few restaraunts.
Don't forget about the Imax theater in Zion!

Another option would be to spend Sat nite in Mesquite. The Eureka is my fave.

Thanks for the help. I ended up booking in Springdale at the Pioneer Lodge - mainly due to the 'touristy' aspect which will keep us occupied in our down time!

Thanks for the suggestion! We do like to camp, but because we are flying in, there is way too much stuff to bring. We tend to take way too much when we camp .

St. George
Red Mountain Spa is in St. George and walking distance from Snow Canyon Park which has easy hiking/walking paths. You can drive 5ish miles to St. George town at night to walk the "downtown area"
Best Western Coral is clean & nice in the center of downtown.
